Logan's Great Company - which badge to use?

Recommended Posts

Quick question - I'm building some Wolves themed for the first War for Armageddon/War with the Inquisition.

I want to make Logan Grimnar's Great Company. Now as Great Wolf he adopts Leman Russ' badge as his own - do his men replace Logan's badge with Leman's or keep their own?

I only ask as in the Wolf pack set you do get transfers and a sculpted pad for Logan's badge - if they do not keep Logan's then there is no reason for it being there?!?!?

It affords you the choice.  You could use either, it depends on your personal preference.

- The Great Wolf's symbol could represent any company led by the Great Wolf of that time (before Logan became the Great Wolf).

- What is now "Logan's symbol" could have been used by a different Wolf Lord) before Logan took up that mantle.

There's nothing that states your army must originate in the 41st Millennium.  You could choose to set your battles in any era from the Crusade onwards (as there weren't Space Wolves before then).

This is sort of what I've done, I have a great company from the past that got lost in the warp and has only just returned to real space.  They've gone to the 13th stone and have had to fight the ravages of daemonic hordes and the traitor legions for millennia.  They therefore have had to replace damaged parts of their armour with ones looted from Chaos Marines.

Your army is what you make of it...

When a Wolf Lord is elected to become the new Great Wolf, and the men of his Great Company change their shoulder pads to the Wolf that Stalks the Stars, symbol of Russ, they will often maintain their previous symbol, but move it to a new secondary position, such as a leg or knee pad in the case of infantry.  You would expect to see the old symbol scattered about the army in on armor, the corners of banners, the rear panels of Rhinos, etc.  This would be especially true for then men in Logan's formation during the First War for Armeggedon, when he was a newer (more recent) Great Wolf, and most of his men would have been with him under his originial Great Company.  In the current timeline, however, since he's been Great Wolf for over 500 years, there probably aren't too many Marines outside of a handful of Long Fangs and Wolf Guard that would have originated with him from the old Company, so I would expect less prevelance of his previous symbol now.
