104 New Zealand dollars.

That's actually quite close to the exchange rate, for pounds to NZD.

For comparison, the Land Raider is 45 pounds and 129 NZD. That's a BIG discrepancy (right across their line).

If this trend continues, and JUST IN TIME for the SW release, you can count me a VERY happy camper smile.png This hobby just got a censored.gif ton more affordable for me.

Look at those beautiful sprues!

Man, those shield/pelt doodads will be so useful for decorating any and all space wolf vehicles. I'm gonna need more than two of these!

Hard to imagine buying forge world land raider door kits, brass etch, etc. Just buy another storm wolf for its doodads (or get them from a bits store)...

I hate to be the miserable old long fang grumbling but I have to say that this looks set to be the most disappointing release in 23 years as a GW customer.  I absolutely loved the soon to be "old" codex from when it was first released. At the beginning of this year someone lamented that we would probably have to wait years for a new codex. I said I hoped they were right as our codex was just fine and anyone wanting a new codex should be careful what they wished for.

For me what sets my wolves apart from codex marines are the Grey Hunters who are more ferocious in melee than regular tacticals, Logan Grimnar who makes my Wolf Guard Troops, those Wolf Guard being a mix of terminators and power armour with individual armaments for every one of them because each is a hero in his own right. The ability to attach those heroes to units as characterful leaders. Lone wolves.

So far the weight of rumour suggests that my Grey Hunters are going to become Tacticals, my Wolf Guard Troops will cease to be, as Elites I'll have to split them into more standardised groups of regular and TDA WG. Pack Leaders are just going to be Veteran Sergeants.
The only thing that isn't as bleak as a Fenrisian winter is that the complete absence of any mention of Lone Wolves hopefully means no significant changes rather than no Lone Wolves at all.

I've come to really like the flying brick but I think I'm going to play friendly games with my current army/codex and spend my money with other games companies.

</grumble>

Right, seems like there's nothing left for me to do but head off into the ice wastes on my Lone Wolf quest.

EDIT: Midnight at the end of a difficult week is not my best time.  A new day a new attitude: The world forge turneth constantly. Fenrisians adapt and survive.

Ok, you're entitled to your opinion and this is the right place to voice it, and I even share many of your sentiments. But let's try and keep a little perspective here:

1. Grey hunters were more ferocious in melee than tacticals, and that's an understatement. They were more ferocious than ASSAULT marines (minus the jump pack, but cheaper so comparison valid). Plus theyre troops, armed with bolt guns and counterattack. Let's be fair. They were overpowered. So it's only reasonable they get taken down a notch.

2. We only have rumours regarding GH so far. From the rumours i have read, i am definitely concerned. I don't want thfe loadout to change. I would much rather see the points cost simply change to 14 with any two of {bolter, bp, cs} and a 2 point upgrade to get all 3. Even 15/+2 i could live with. Personally i think 2 special weapons is far, far superior to special plus heavy (i don't even see the point in putting heavy weapons in tacticals but i haven't played vanilla since 2nd), the wolf standard is currently one of the most OP pieces of wargear in the game and probably worth more like 20 points minimum (we'll have to see how it is changed). So even at 17 ppm with the ultragrit loadout, we'd be competitive. I hope the rumours are wrong and we get something like that, but until we see something more concrete i am trying to stay calm msn-wink.gif

3. We are getting some really good stuff to go with the bad! What's more space Viking than a huge winged shoe? Actually that sounds kinda Greek now that i put it that way. Anyway... Longboats ahoy!!! And the kit even comes bedecked with shields and pelts (that you can stick to other SW vehicles). If other rumours are to be believed, we're getting a new dreadnought model. Woohoo! Likely it will come with nice conversion bits too. And we can HOPE it has some more viable rules for SW dreadnoughts - perhaps an AV 13 version? Who knows, maybe we will be able to give them frost cannons and frost axe dreadnought cccw ;) New iron priest model? YES PLEASE. See? There's lots to be optimistic about.

While I agree with the general principle, there's a couple of points I'd dispute.

Firstly, yes in 2009 Hunters were OP for 15 points, but given the cost reductions that have occurred since, a legit case can be made for keeping Hunters exactly as they are (as far a point cost and basic gear goes), not to mention the overall power creep that has made 3+ infantry somewhat less appealing than they were a few years ago. Although Chaos have to pay 2 points for their ccw, Carcharodons only pay +1, so there is a precedent (admittedly FW) for 15 point ultra grit marines. Taking them 'down a notch' (assuming accurate rumours) essentially makes them grey tacticals, which imo is grade A BS.

And yes, Hunter were/are comparable to Assault Marines, but the thing is, Assault Marines aren't really all that good. They're certainly far from a top tier assault unit. Ultra grit Hunters give us the adaptibiltiy edge at mid/close range fighting, which has formed the basics of our tactics since the 3rd ed codex. I would be very sad if that is wholly undermined by nerfing Hunters to Tacticals. Hell, I'd rather see a return to the 18 point, True Grit days than that.

I think it looks an awful lot like a Colonial Viper...

With regard to the Grey Hunters, they HAVE to be superior to other marines.  That has been the defining difference between wolves and other marines since the outset.  We kick arse in close combat and we lack access to some of the firepower and gimmicks reserved for vanilla marines and other specialized chapters.

To deviate from that format would be to make the Wolves obsolete.  I don't see that happening.

I hear you Fenrisian folk found a fabulous new flyer? And that it is suspiciously like a flying landraider, designed to deliver sixteen heroes into gnarly close combat face-first? I demand you return it to the Black Templars immediately, where it belongs! We all know you don't like to fly anyway. (Please air it out first, I can't abide the smell of wet dog).

But seriously: from what I gather, it's pretty good and I wish I had one in black+white. :)

Who doesn't like to fly? You couldn't possibly be talking about the Sky Warriors of Fenris, whose fortress is so tall that it sticks out of their home planet's atmosphere, and has its own space port at the summit?

No he must have meant the chapter that doesn't use elevators to ascend or descend their mountain.  You know the chapter that jumps down shafts to get to the bottom. ;)

I think we may see a lot of Stormwolfs in the coming months.  Especially because according to the new rumors they are dedicated transports for almost everything.
