Very nice. I like the subtle highlights on the black. Must've been hell to do!

Good lenses too.

It does look extremely clean for a war machine, and very old one at that, though I presume your army is a 'clean' one. Absolutely nothing wrong with that (Sockwithaticket's is another that comes to mind). Perhaps a liiiiitttle weathering on the DCCW 'fingers'?

Thanks for the kind words guys. Regarding the white, i started with a base of astronomican grey then worked it up to skull white but not pure white. Had a little tip of grey in it. Keep your paints thin but the best tip I can give is shouting. If you shout abuse at the model, the paint and anyone who disturbs you whilst attempting the headwreck that is painting white, it helps enormously.

@Kierdale, You are 100% correct. I tried to copy the Raven Guard dread from the previous codex which is weathered the way you describe but I was painting a drop pod at the same time which was going great until i toned down some highlights with new bottle of nuln oil. Dried with a horrible white, streaky crust all over. It was an emotional experience already, it pushed me over the edge and once i'd finished all that white I was then nervous about ruining another model.

I am, however, saving up for a days private tuition at golem studio and i will more than likely take this guy and the pod to learn some weathering.

@Asmodai, completely agree with you. When painting, i had the body built with arms and the leg plates separate. I was following the Dread in the old codex as close as possible so the legs were going to be black (which I think would've looked better) but as I was painting the arms white and was dreading (40k humor there) all those layers, I thought i would paint the legs white also, to push myself and hopefully be a better painter.

I was happy i got the white fairly smooth but when putting everything together I had the same thought as you, too much white.

I'm hesitant to change it though as I like having a timeline on my figures to see the progress i've made. I do have a venerable dread ready to prime so hopefully that will go better, but I took a break from beloved beakies to paint a Skaven Greyseer and i'm currently working on a Blood Angel cpt, which hope to finish by tonight.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, and nice to meet a fellow Shrike fan.

Wow. When I first saw those terminators over at CMON, I really wondered why someone would paint Raven Guard marines green. But now, with better lighting, they look much, much better! A very smooth and beautiful black. And classical style lenses - the way I like them best. Thumbs up for that! msn-wink.gif

The only thing I'm not really sold on is the white of the details. Not because of the recipe, which appears to be simple and easy, but because you seemingly painted only the most prominent parts of these details. If you traced the outlines further into the recesses between detail and armour, it would receive a more plastic and threedimensional look.

Overall good work, especially on the dread! smile.png

@ Caloth, never noticed that before and now I can't stop noticing. Something thats becoming more apparent to me is to spend a little more time preparing, I painted the head seperately and most of got some layers of paint somewhere.

@Rogan, your absolutely right sir. I followed SCC's awesome RG tutorial but originally i did the white from blue (you can see on my dread), giving more shading, but with the Termies I thought I would try follow the tutorial exactly. Nothing i'm doing looks consistent atm because i'm trying to practice as many different techniques as possible. I 've nearly finished that Blood Angel I told you about (pics in WIP) then my desk is empty, I'm going to have a spring clean, then start on some units for my RG and a single character, either an Ultra or something Chaos.

I've noticed on mine if I trim a little from the bottom of the neck the head fits better, but I'm notorious in my group as a helm freak.... I hate the idea that any marine goes without one, except maybe the wolves
