crimsonfist123
So I've been out of Warhammer for almost a year. I have a good amount of DA stuff, but the new Space Wolves fliers is making me want to do Space Wolves again. Any advice on what I should buy to get started, models and paints. Also, any advice on converting my unused DA stuff. Also, should I do standard space wolves or 13th company? Thanks! Squark
13th Company at this point have no rules, and it doesn't appear that they'll be getting any anytime soon. With regards to starting models, well... We're not sure. If "Little Bird's" rumors are correct, both troop choices should be viable- But we can't count on that. That being said, one way or another you're going to need power armored Space Wolves. At least one or two boxes of them is basically mandatory, but if Grey Hunters remain the standard troop choice, you'll probably want to do a 50-50 split of Space Wolf kits to Tactical marine kits (Or, since you're a DA player who hopefully has some bits leftover, you can just buy all space wolf kits and use the leftover special weapons and generic torsos, legs, etc. to make the supplies go further). HQ choice is still up in the air; I highly expect the Wolf Priest to get changed (Or at least lose Preferred Enemy for a dedicated assault rule), and Rune Priests are going to stop being overpriced junk, but beyond that, we're not sure. The things we can be certain about are stuff the wolves share with other marines- Specifically, Land Raiders. They're not going to stop being good. Taking two and filling them with the Troop choice of your fancy is still going to be good no matter what happens to the rest of the dex. Paint-wise, Wolves can either come in a blue-gray scheme (The wolf-named paints are the ones you need here), or a darker solid gray. Either way, you'll also want red, yellow, and white for pack markings. Since the wolves tend to go helmetless*, you're also going to want some fleshtones. And of course, you'll need gunmetal, black, and some other colors for little things like purity seals, filigree, symbols, and the like. *This isn't entirely due to recklessness: Space Wolves have senses far beyond what the typical power armored helmet can replicate and depend heavily on those senses to coordinate their units; Ragnar compared putting on a helmet to escape poison gas to being blinded twice over due to the loss of his sense of smell and the helmet deadening the sound. The chapter does have a handful of modified helmets with sufficiently sensitive audio receptors and special chambered atmospheric filters that allow a Space Wolf to make use of their full range of hearing and to sample the air around them, but given their rarity in the Deathwatch RPG it can be safely assumed it takes a master Iron Priest to create such a helmet. Jarl of Wulfen
I still use 13th company type units. Grey hunters with 2 special weapons, wolf guard tooled up for close combat, a full pack of wolves. No vehicles, and I've started to use thunder cav instead of bikers. I started the army back during the EoT world campaign and have continued to keep adding to it. I painted my loyal power armor grey using dawnstone and ironbreaker. The chaosy bits are black and hashnut copper. My head-canon has them chasing the black legion and scavenging arms and armor from them.
