The Yak
I am thinking of starting an Imperial Knight Project themed around the old EPIC House Hyperion. The project is firmly implanted in my mindseye at the minute, with only the Knights Codex and a lust for having the force led by a Cerastus Lancer. I wondered if anyone knew how the rules would work for making the Lancer my Seneschal? The weapon skill bonus is straightforward but what about the Ion shield? Would it increase as per usual? How do you think the 5+ close combat save would be affected? jeffersonian000
Yes, a Lancer can be a Seneschal, with all of the bonuses inherent to that rank. However, is the "Ion Gauntlet Shield" an "Ion Shield"? If yes, then a 3++ save versus range is reasonable, although a 4++ in melee might not be intended. If not, then no bonus to the Invul save. Personally, 3++/4++ seems reasonable, although I'd probably play it 3++/5++ to avoid argument. The Yak
Cheers bud that was my line of thinking also. The Ion gauntlet shield is similar to the normal Ion shield but it can't be used to protect its rear facing. I think keeping the combat save at 5+ seems the reasonable thing to do. At first I wasn't too keen on the lancers look. But I have seen pics of a few knight armies with 5 knights led by a lancer and it looks phenomenal! Could not possibly have a paladin or errant in charge when one of those beauties is in the crew! jeffersonian000
I know what you mean, the Lancer just feels like a Baron leading a household into battle. Brother Paen
I made a Lance for one of my Paladins before the Lancer model was released. I intend on adding a converted Lancer to my force but not as my Baron.. What are your thoughts on a Baron "Seneschal" with a Lance weapon instead of the chainsword ?...so yes 2 shooting weapons. Or do I stick with standard profile and just use the "lance" as a way to denote who is in charge? jeffersonian000
Actually, I was working on an Errant with a Lance and shield to be the Seneschal for my Knight army before the Lancer got leaked, wanted to do a "Spartan-esque" theme with spear and shield. Since the Lancer rules came out, I've been of two minds on finishing the Seneschal Errant or going full Lancer. Not sure if going full Lancer is a good idea, despite the totally awesome stats it'd get. Probably will finish the conversion and run a detachment of similar Errants using the new Waaagh Knight formation, do the whole Phalanx Shield Wall theme with "Reaper Power Lances" and externally mounted "barrier" Ion Shields. If so, I'll convert a "Baron" Lancer to be Seneschal.
