So... what do you guys think of Hellfrost weapons?

I dig it.

As others say, it's better thematically for the Wolves to have characteristics beyond being just... well, wolfy. 5e was a great codex, but it's two main thrusts were heroes and beasts. It's cool that Ice and Storms and Dreadnoughts are finding their way back in. Much more varied and robust imagery.

Giant floating freeze cannons shooting blasts of cold behind the ravages of a psychically conjured blizzard is pretty powerful imagery. Sold me on the flyers.

It'll be interesting to see what psychic powers we get in "Tempestus" or whatever the SW discipline was rumoured to be.

I'm hoping we get something that penalises strength tests. Would be nice for synergy with this gun :P Assuming it took the target below str 5 of course.

Of course, Enfeeblement in Biomancy can do it, and that'd be my preferred discipline at least until we see if tempests is any good.

thinking about this....i know the current rumour is helfrost on flyers and dread only....but as DA got plasma bikers...do you think we may get the option of helfrost weapons on swiftclaws...id initially think not, as the current kit doesnt have them, and with them being bloodclaws on bikes, probably not trusted with these rare weapons.

However if it was an option, rune priest on a bike, with biomancy (enfeeble), leading swiftclaw bikers with helfrost. Potentially very nasty against anything with 2 or more wounds

didnt realise 'hel' had the mythology link, thought it was just a wacky/nu-metal spelling of hell. Much happier with it now

I like the choice of firing modes for the Helfrost weapons, and think we need to consider the Strength test bit just as a bonus. It will only be reliable on T4 and lower models, which the S8 shot will instakill anyway. Th S6 blast could clear large broods of Tyranid Warriors.

However as was pointed out to me on a different thread, a 1/6 chance to remove a 5 or 6 wound MC from play is not to be sniffed out. Plenty of 6s get rolled over the course of a match.

T

when you lance a vehicle use this to show how you skewered it like a pig

when you kill or "remove from play" replace the mode with this:

it will be a great way to get under the skin of your opponent as you change the battle field to look like Fenris muhahahah

How do people envisage it working from a fluff perspective? I'm assuming that it coats the enemy in a rapidly growing shell of ice and the strength test represents them bursting out before they are trapped and left as a frozen statue.

For those commenting on the fire aspect of Fenris - just take two Helfrost weapons and paint one in hot colours and call it a Helfire cannon, then you have your Ice and Fire theme.

aye id say its a 'reacting fast/strong enough to break out - from a fire persepective (like the hot/cold theme) itd just be a strength test to withstand the burning i suppose.

Get that TL cannon on the new flyer painted up hot n cold :D

i envision it working like Mr freeze in that shidy batman movie, every time you shoot it you should say in an Arnie accent "what killed the dinosaurs, the ice age"

When it is focused as a lance i envision a huge ice spear shot at the target and stabbing through them. then spreading out like the cold in the day after tomorrow movie.

agains troops in a burst more like a wide beam gun like the mr freeze i mentioned earlier

I love that idea, IK, well done.

Why not a flamer and a helfrost cannon? We already have fire weapons >=D

The only real weakness they have is the short range for heavy weapons (the mobility of the flyers helps with this though). They are extremely versatile weapons. Yes terminators and other 1 wound models with 2+ armor would be a waste to shoot, but everything else should be terrified. With the vehicle damage table change the AP1 is even more valuable, and lance for the destructor means even landraiders and monoliths are vulnerable. S6 AP3 with either large or small blast will tear through whole units of marines, necrons, elder ghost warriors, and anything else without a 2+. The helfrost rule means that multi wound 2+ armor models are more vulnerable too. I think it is an excellent weapon.

What do I think...remember when Wolf Claws were unique? I'm thinking give a year or two after release and other Marines will have the same thing.

id really say not, when C:sm have access to grav, and we dont.

What happened with wolf claws? As far as I was aware we were the only chapter with wolf claws? (others have lightning claws but the rules are slightly different)

What do I think...remember when Wolf Claws were unique?

What's this?  Wolf Claws are still unique.  Of course, Wolf Claws are just a silly variation off of Lightning Claws, which were never unique to anyone, other than initially being a TDA-only weapon.

FREEZE RAY!

We can, just as soon as someone figures out where Ray went...

I always wonder about that problem he has running, save when the Staypuft Marshmellow Man shows up...

Then again, rather hard when one is on a roof top of a massive building and all.

Nice to see humor is at least appreciated.

Edit:

May I please ask a mod to make this just a link?  No clue why it's doing the video window when it's supposed to just be a link...
