Hello To all

Well I am getting back into the game with 7th, my regular opponent decided he wanted orks so I thought, take the wolves and see what happens. I have been doing a lot of reading on the SW and I must say I like them alot, the background, the models, the conversion possibilites. All good!

I do have a couple of questions though, maybe you more experienced wolflords can give me some advise, and forgive my noobness.

1. I know a new codex is about to drop, but I have the models from stormclaw and I was wondering how to build the BC and GH, bolter/chainsword, bolt pistol/chainsword, just bolter? Any suggestions?

2. I noticed that Krom Dragongaze is on a larger base, Why is that, is he a lord of war? Also I am not sure I will use that model as my wolf lord, do all wolf lords come on that size base? Just wanting to know so that I know what size base to put him on if I wanted to use him as something else later.

I hope to have some small conversions and painted models up soon.

Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated. Now back to watching "Vikings" and getting the models ready to prime.

Greetings, salutations and welcome! Grab a tankard of mjord and join us by the hearth place!

Regarding your questions:

1) to be safe, start with making two handed bolters or special weapons wielding hunters. We don't really know for sure if we will lose the ultra grit loadouts of Bolter, bolt pistol and CCW so make the weapons you would be using regardless then decide what you which hunters you want CCW and BP once new codex hits. So far now, just make plasma gunners.

On a separate note, you might want to get a tactical marine box for the wealth of weapons which u won't find in the standard GH/BC spruce, meaning flamer, melta and combi weapons. Not to mention missile launcher. With that box, you can also mix and match torsos, legs and backpacks to have 20 Grey hunters. My way is that for GH which are using two hands weapons, I would use normal Marine torso since the weapon would be blocking the chest, hence no need to use the nicer and elaborate GH ones. Same with the shoulder pads. One thing that stays the same though, always use the heads from the GH pack. That way, even if you build almost the whole body just from the marine pack, just place a grey beard head in it and everyone will instantly think Space Wolves since only we grow cool facial hair.

2) this is a head scratcher for me, it is legal to put him in large base but it does absolutely nothing for him apart from making him fatter and awesome looking. I m willing to bet normal PA wolf lords will be usual small base though. He definitely isn't a lord of war, more like a unique character with a pretty good formation. My opinion is that he is decent against hordes and regular marines unless they are wielding 'hidden' power fists. As a choppy character, he is also quite cheap. If I were you, if you want to use him, do it for the formation, and have some other main force as primary detachment.

Hope my advice is helpful.

Welcome brother. I would recommend following kaspers advice, he has the right of it. Though I personally prefer meltaguns to plasmaguns but that's just me, plus you don't have any unless you score a regular tactical marine box.

As for the base thing krom is weird. Normally when you base power armor lords they get a small base.

Welcome to the excitement of the release and have fun with you wolves

Welcome to the Aett brother, always room round the hearth for a new member of The Rout smile.png

For your BC and GH I would personally hold off on building until the codex drops seeing as we are so close now and that way you can be 100% sure you are putting together a competetive and dex legal loadout. Picking up the regular tactical marine box is a great idea for the extra weapons and things like ammo pouches etc. and if you want to fully embrace the conversion opportunitites I am a big fan of matching in some of the warhammer fantasy bits, the marauder and dwarf ranges in particular have some very evocative heads/weapons/armour bits that you can use to personalise your packs. Hope this is helpful, all the best against the greenskins !

LOL, I actually saw the potential conversions from warhammer Fantasy a long time ago, its just that I find it hard to justify myself to get either Warriors of chaos or black Orcs just to get the great looking axes. Dwarves also have some cool hammers which can replace our thunderhammers if you don't like the current design (the GH one is beautiful though, I use that for my Arjac).

Just that after I get the swords, axes and hammers from fantasy models, I would have no idea what to do with the remaining models except sell them at a discount to other fantasy players. which in my meta, there isn't a lot of fantasy players.

anyway, just go for the special weapons or heavy weapons grey hunters which you can never go wrong regardless of how the new dex comes out.

As others suggested, don't assemble any models until the codex drops and we've all had a chance to analyze what is and isn't legal, and what is and isn't worth-while. Don't rush to failure!

He's on a larger base because it looks cooler, and from the pictures that I've seen, he has a wide stance that would look odd on a 25mm base; his feet might not even fit on one. For the record, all of my Space Wolves characters are mounted on 40mm bases, down to and including the Wolf Guard, so don't worry about using it for your Wolf Lord, whether you chose to use Krom or not. In fact, with a head swap and a magnetized wrist/weapons, that Krom model makes a terrific model to base a DIY Wolf Lord, or even Ragnar Blackmane off of. Have fun with it.

Best,

V

Hmmm, you have to wonder what Mjord is actually made off. Most alcohol beverages are made of some agricultural product or another; i.e. ale is made from barley, beer is made from wheat, mead is from honey, wine is from grapes, sake is from rice etc etc etc....

.... I don't recall Fenris having any agriculture although there are certainly plant life. Meaning there is probably some unknown fruit or plant that grows on that death planet which the Space Wolves somehow manage to ferment and brew into something that can kill a normal human from the inside out.

You could say there might be honey somewhere since there are bears on Fenris, but doesn't quite make sense, you need bees and flowers to make honey. Flowers on Fenris? HERESY!!! BLAM! (doing to myself with a bolt pistol)

LOL, I've been reading 1d4 chan too much.
