Krieg in tournaments

Yes, I have experienced this. Astronomi-con (which I attended this past weekend), is in fact the only local tournament that allows Forge World. On the other hand, Astronomi-con does not allow Lords of War, Knights, and several of the larger fortifications, despite these being right in the main rule book.

Forbidding Forgeworld seems to be fairly standard and I guess tournament organizers ban it for similar reasons to banning things like Knights or Lords of War -- they consider it unbalancing. I frankly think that the great majority of Forgeworld stuff is actually weaker than "mainstream" 40K but there are a few units that give it the bad rep I guess.

I just chalk it up to being something within any given tournament organizer's discretion.

To be honest I've never understood the whole balanced deal. There is no way to make a game like this perfectly balanced but ahh well. Thanks! For this tournaments how comparable USA regular guard list? Is it so different I should practice more with guard instead of krieg list?

I would say you should definitely practice more with regular Guard.

Krieg do play quite differently. In the tournament I just played, the biggest differences I noticed were not having to take leadership tests for 25% casualties to shooting (this was huge), and the presence of krak grenades on everyone. Plus the Krieg orders are totally different, especially now that the new codex is out, so you need to be used to what the Codex: AM orders do for quick decisions during the tournament. You would also be surprised at what a big difference WS 4 makes in close combat. If you're not used to regular guard you may find yourself in bad situations -- remember that during a tournament you do not have as much time to think, so you will fall back on what you're used to.

Agreed with Nico - TOs can make whatever rules they like, so to make life simpler you should get some experience running your Kriegers as normal Guard as FW is often banned for convenience. I've never organised a tournament before but I can see where they're coming from as I'm sure there's enough to juggle as it is. Not that it helps FW lists, but such is life sometimes.
