Jerre
I was thinking of making a mainly footslogging army to stay fluffy but I am afraid that the army will be to slow (especially with the reaping not allowing the units to run) and can easily be outmanouvered by more mobile armies. In zone mortalis, this won't be an issue but for a larger normal battle, I think I need transports. So to bring the zone mortalis to 1500 points I am considering the following:HQ - Legion Praetor (The Reaping), Terminator Armour, Iron Halo, Power Scythe, Rad Grenades - 165HQ - Legion Centurion, Consul (Primus Medicae), Artificer Armour - 95TROOPS - Legion Tactical Squad, Additional close combat weapons, Legion Vexilla, Artificer Armour, Rad Grenades in Legion Rhino - 235TROOPS - Legion Tactical Squad, Additional close combat weapons, Legion Vexilla, Artificer Armour, Rad Grenades in Legion Rhino - 235TROOPS - Legion Veteran Tactical Squad, 2 Plasmaguns, Artificer armour in Legion Rhino - 275ELITES - Deathshroud Terminator Squad, 2 additional deathshroud terminators, Meltabombs - 190HEAVY SUPPORT - Legion Spartan Assault Tank, Armoured Ceramite, Auxiliary Drive - 325Thoughts? Triacom
As far as I'm aware, Zone Mortalis doesn't stop you from taking named characters, if you're worried about your army being too slow with The Reaping, then you can take Morturg to give you infiltrate with either your troops for a turn 1 flaming with the Deathshroud (incredibly nasty) and with endurance on them they can survive nearly everything that shoots back at them, he's better than an Apothecary/Primus Medicae that way. I'd also not ever recommend taking units at their base size, you're paying a premium if you don't put them in a rhino, melta bombs are almost never going to be used as you're going to find very little vehicles, and Krak grenades are better against monsters anyway since more than one person get them, you can also give Rad Grenades to every unit in your army, and I'd highly recommend them on the Deathshroud, going from 3+ (average) on wound rolls to 2+ is bigger than you think. I'm also not sure if your second list is for Zone Mortalis, or a regular game, if it's for a regular game, then I'd recommend Mortis Contemptors and Rapiers over the Spartan, it's a bit overkill at this points level, and I'd still recommend getting Morturg to put the Deathshroud (and presumably the Praetor) where you want them turn 1, and if it's for Zone Mortalis, then almost the entire list is illegal, since the Spartan goes against the vehicle size limit, and you cannot have Rhino's, at all. I think the biggest dead weights in both of your lists though, is the Veteran Tactical Squads, I've never been a fan of them, and you can usually get twice as many bodies with four times as many shots if you stick with regular troops, in your second list if you swapped the veteran squad for a regular tactical one you could get 20 models for 250 points, and with Morturg you can get them close enough to use FotL for 80 shots turn 1, shoot Smite first with Morturg to kill any Artificer Armour Sergeants, then FotL should decimate the rest of the troops. All of these are separate ideas though, and the death guard are almost always going to be at a disadvantage in Zone Mortalis if you take The Reaping, so a last idea is it might be better to stock up on heavy weapons/contemptors, dig in, and make your enemy come to you.
