Batrep, 20k Space Wolves vs Dark Angels

Excited from their previous fights, my space wolves decided to leave their vehicles behind and started to march forward, at a great distance they saw a company of Dark Angels and my Wolf lord issued a challenge. And so it was a Deadlock battle, full of deceit and tragedy...

My list was 3 (or 4?) units of Grey Hunters with 2 plasma guns and a Wolf Guard in a Terminator Armor each. 3 units of Long Fangs with missile launchers, 10 bikers, 10 jump packs, 3 Thunderwolves and one Dropping Dreadnout, My Warlord was a Wolf lord in a Terminator Armor attached to one unit of Grey Hunters.

My opponent fielded 4 units of marines, each with bolt pistols and chainswords riding their respective rhinos, 1 unit of 5 Thunderhammer and Stormshield Terminators, 2 units of Devastators with missile launchers, 2 speeders with Cannons and one Land Raider with his Chapter Master and more terminators.

We deployed diagonally, his 3 rhinos int he right, the terminator in the center and the final rhino in the left, devastators in the left corner and the land raider in reserve, i put my thunderwolves and jump packs as lose as possible to his rhinos, my Hunters in the center and long fangs well spread, bikes on reserve.

In the first turn he raced forward, misjudging the power of my long fangs and trusting in the cover and the nightfighing, the terminators were advancing extremely slow due to area terrain and his last rhino was alone racing for a far objective, devastators didn't kill much. In my turn the long fangs killed 2 rhinos and my fast attackers charged and eviscerated the unit that was forced down from his rhino, the other unit forced down was heavy shooted by all of my Grey hunters and reduced 2 one model, so no convenient countercharge to my jump packs.

2nd turn, rhino got closer, marines disembarked and all the shots, from the pistols, the speeders and the devastators went to my thunderwolves, one survived and was left with one wound, I got lucky with my cover saves. The terminators marched forward, expecting to engage my Wolf Lord in the following turn, his land raider didn't showed up and his last rhino went for the far away objective. In my turn, long fangs killed almost all of his disembarked units of marines and the rest of my shooting went into his Terminators, only killed 2 of them ¬¬ my wolf lord and more Hunters took cover and waited for the termis, bikers din´t showed up, again.

Finally, his Land Raider arrived and his shooting was great that turn, my Grey Hunters started to fade away, last thunderwolf went down and his remaining rhino with marines raced to my long fangs, his terminators failed the charge against my lord and his unit. In my turn, the bikers didn't showed up... It was ok; long fangs killed the rhino and a couple of marines, the rest of my Hunters killed those pesky marines, only 2 left. The jump packs tried to charge some devastators but lucky snapshots and low dices made me fail the charge. The fun part was the center of the tables, a lot my Hunters and the Wolf Lord were expecting his chapter master to disembark and charge with his other terminators, a glorious battle! But...

Orbital Bombardment. His chapter master targeted the unit of my Wolf Lord, killed a lot of his Hunters and charged him with his 3 Terminators, he and 2 Grey Hunters took the charge, my Wolf Lord was furious, he wanted fight the enemy warlord, not to be shot from far away. The devastators killed my remaining jump packs. In battle, the terminators looked a bit demoralized, their Chapter Master was cowardly guarded in a Land Raider while my Termilord was openly fighting any amount of foes, that emotional debacle made them almost all of his to hit rolls, they killed the remaining Grey Hunters, but not one blow went to the Wolf Lord, he mercilessly killed 2 of them. In my turn the bikers arrived, Grey Hunters hastily went to support the Wolf Lord, but didn't make the charge... Long Fangs shot down the speeders, and in battle the remaining terminator fell with honor after dealing one wound to the Wolf Lord, who was now all alone in the middle of the battlefield.

Final Turn: His chapter master didn't even disembarked from the Land Raider, he shot down the Wolf Lord. In my 5th turn I killed his linebreaking marine, managed to position well enough my Hunters so that he could not chrage them in case there was a 6th turn, shot the Land Raider to only 1 hull point left and placed my bikers in front of his devastators, that gave linebreaker and if there was another turn, i would have charged and killed them.

But there was no 6th turn... Who won the battle? in the table it was clear that his only unit left could do a lot of damage, but he was heavily outnumbered and bad positioned due to arriving in reserve and not moving for one turn, in the victory points we went 7 to 6, but of us got terrible Tactical objectives, so, my linebreaking bikes that arrived in the 4th turn gave me the victory, yei!

There were, clearly, mistakes from both sides, but still was an extremely fun match. Perhaps my victory would have been easier if i hadn't forgot about my Dropping Dreadnought, that i payed in my list, but left in the car.

Ogalois.

Well done, looks like u had a good game. Close games are always the best as it keeps both of you on your toes and excited the whole game.

You mentioned your wolf lord was hit by an orbital bombardment. How did he survive? Saga of the bear or look out sir or invuln? Need more detail on your list.

He told me they were Dark Angels...

LIES!

Yes, my bearful wolf lord never leaves his cave without his cheerful and joyful eternal warrior benefits, 35 points are just swell in that matter. My list is not fully detailed, costwise, because in other forums they (the big brother, comunists, etc) always sensor those posts.

Dude, you can always post your lists in detail, just not the individual points.

Regardless, you still beat him but always have a rough idea of your opponents lists and special rules. Actually, I think what you were really facing was Black Templars if you say that all his tactical squads were packing bolt pistols and chainswords, which BT can do via crusader squads. You did a good job outmaneuvering him.

Dark Angels almost always use their fancy white terminators and black bikes. If he was really using dark angels, I m surprised he used a tactical marine heavy list, and didn't teleport his termies close which Deathwing can do on turn 1
