Codex pre-orders are up!

That is a ton of money for rule books. I love that they try to promote the Grimnar book as never before seen - it's brand freaking new of course it's never been seen before.

The sled, the dreadnought wielding an axe and shield, the promethium propellant lines missing from the heavy flamers...come on.  Fantasy, warmachine, and a bad design choice. Space wolves take space marines over the line of cool and into silly and exceptionally dumb. Really, I want to like them because overall they have a good paint scheme and look alright but then you have things like this. Then on principle the marines are generally cheaper and do more than other equivalents which is annoying. Templars, nope, Blood Angels, nope.

Rant over.

Didn't realize I posted in the SW forum as I thought I was in amicus for some reason.

*embarrassment intensifies*

I should probably add something so as not to mislead others. The Grey Hunter entry screen shot I've seen did not include optional wargear so it is possible you can buy a CCW for each GH, but as it stands...GHs get bolter/BP and the wolf guard pack leader is the only one with a CCW.

dude grey hunters are 14 points now if you want em cheap and nasty, they cost an extra point over 5th ed which is still a point or 2 cheaper than 3rd ed.

they buy special weapons at marine prices and don't get the free special weapon.

in my opinion this is great, marines will stop bitching at us for being over powered as we are now as much as their guys only with more options.

And we are far cheaper then chaos who have to pay 17 points a model to have the same layout with counter charge (although they get rage)

compared to blood claws they pay 3 points extra per model for khorne (again they have ws 4 and bs 4) i think we still have the best troops.

i think it rare to not take ccw, the only list i see it feasible against is elder, since bolt guns are better then shrunken catapults.

but against tau, get to combat, against nids, they will get to you in combat, so you can't use it against armies that have better shooting or better assault

so the only lists it works against is where regular marines are the better shooting and close combat unit then their average unit, in other words where your quality of troops is superior.

That's how I see it Haakon. I'd have no problem if they kept GHs the same, but increased the cost to 16 or even 17 pts.

Making them grey Ultramarines by default is just weird. On one side you have one of, if not the, best troops choices in the game. On the other you have tactical marines.

Most people are just going to pay the 16 pts. At least that's what I think.

From a pure optimisation standpoint, it might pay to leave at least 1 GH without a tri-weapon load out, because you will often take casualties before the front model gets to strike. Of course, it leads to annoying book keeping and complexity so I might not bother.

You know you have a great LGS when they preorder the book and the cards for you without even asking or charging you a thing.

Yep, ordered mine through the LGS, along with the cards.  I can pick them up any time after Noon on Friday, so I'll be swinging out on my lunch break.  This'll be much better than the debacle with my 7e rulebook set ordered through the GW website, that didn't arrive to my house until a full week after the release, despite having preordered at the beginning of May.

I ordered the Long Fang Edition this morning.

Don't know if I will ever play wolves again sad.png They were my first army when a friend gave me some scrap marines back in 1991. He changed from Marines to Eldar and I changed from painting Ral Partha to painting Games Workshop LoL

Who knows though. If these are indeed the wolf times, as they claim............. Long Fangs like me will hear the call of Russ and make our way back to the Fang. If so, I will at least have the Codex and plenty of warriors ready when the time comes.

No comment until I actually have a physical copy of the book in my hand. I will build bodies and paint bodies from stormclaw, but some of the grisled vets of the pack here have given this pup the good advice to not add arms just yet.

But here here to not being 14 (so 26 years ago for me!) and liking ridiculous, although with my original army being Blood Angels a couple years back, the new Space Wolves seem very tame as far as ridiculousness goes.
