MeatGrinder
Those prices for the special editon versions are completely extortionate. That logan model looks awful, but if its plastic, it might be possible to make it look decent, like the centurions. The grey hunters without ccws is so stupid, yeh you can buy them, but why not leave it at 15 points a model and leave them in, you cant even make a 10man squad from the box without using them. WYSIWYG is going to be a nightmare, and its something Ive always prided myself on. Curse "everyone else" for pointing out that a very good unit is very good (and still remain so in the new Codex with an option that no other Marine Chapter has and remain better value than Chaos Space Marines). I'm not sure Space Wolf players have a huge amount to complain about right now (broken fluff aside, of course). Ragnars Claw
I've ordered the Long Fang edition (missed out on the Wolf Guard codex so had to go for the cheaper special edition :( ), 2 of the new flyers, a new dread and a set of the cards. I've got about 4,000pts of Wolves so will see what else is funky in the new codex before buying anything else. Theis
Anyone bought the interactive ios codexes before? I know they are overpriced but what does it offer? I always hoped for a full army list creator with active lunks etc I imagine this is way off the truth...? I have been buying the interactive editions of since they became available. Essentially it means 360 degree rotation on some pictures. The almost useless army builder at the back is geared more toward creating a list of your total collection than creating a list from. Seriously any of the others, Battlescribe, Army Builder, Quartermaster are all far better than GW's canned app at the back of the dex. The only real virtue is that every rule, every weapon entry, every unit entry, has hyperlinks built in to provide pop ups of the rules, or the ability to take you to the unit entry, armory entry, etc., which is relevant. That's my take, other opinions may very. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294537-codex-pre-orders-are-up/page/3/#findComment-3766592 Share on other sites
tjdudey
re: List building programs. I have been using hq-builder, an online one. its ok for a freebie, but they still haven't updated Wolves since the 7th ed FAQ, so I don't reckon they will update for the new codex any quicker. How quickly do programs like army builder etc update when a new codex drops. I have matches lined up for pretty soon after my dex gets delivered and I would like to use a program? Any reccomendations? Tom Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294537-codex-pre-orders-are-up/page/3/#findComment-3766597 Share on other sites

Any reccomendations? Tom I've been using army builder for many years. Firstly, let me state that my comments are my own and are not reflective of all AB users. AB is a purchased item which is a framework for many gaming systems. It uses a scripting type language to interpret the rules, conditions etc. of a given file. The issue I have with AB is the dwindling upkeep of the 40K files. The files are maintained by people who have freely donated their time for many years, a true labour of love. So let's get that straight. I applaud all that they have done to date. However, due to the complexity and working within the constraints of the AB framework, changes aren't always easy; additionally, the number of changes required due to GW's aggressive (which i welcome) release schedule isnt helping matters. I have recently started looking for alternatives. I'd much prefer that GW undertook this themselves as it would clear up a lot of the rule discrepancies and interpretations and would fall in line with a lot of other gaming systems that allow for list building directly on their sites. I feel that GW could make excellent use of marketing to udnerstand lists and players preferences much more and could extract invaluable information as to the overall meta and understand why for eg. GH were the go-to choice. Is it because they were over-performing or was there just no alternatives. It would give give them invaluable input as to where to focus energies. For what it's worth, I frequent the AB maintainers website often to check on progress for getting 7th ed. up and running. Posts like these don't help knowing you making an investiment into a list builder which may run its course. http://www.ab40k.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3058 but you be your own judge. spjaco
The Wolf Guard and Long Fang editions of the Codex are limited to 500 and 1000 respectively. Both pricey, but very nice Dreadnought kit is good value at £33, seeing as you can build at least 3 variants, and has a lot of weapon options Pricey? A $180 BEFORE DELIVERY..... Hokay, hold on, lemme go buy a lottery ticket..... Otherwise my wife would kill me! Valerian
I used to use Army Builder, but moved to excel years ago. There is a 'start up' cost in time in entering all of the data, but I've got a template built that makes this easy, now that it's done. Once I create a single tab as a 'Master List' of everything I own, then building for a game is easy, as I just copy that tab to a new spreadsheet, and then start cutting out units that I won't be using to get down to the right points level, then tweak options for there, based on my inventory. There are many advantages to doing it this way, to include being able to capture as much or as little detail as I desire, and formatting in a way that is most helpful for my use. JCarter
My problem is that I haven't seen anything yet to indicate that GW has done anything to eliminate the weaknesses of the Wolves. Will Wolves become a high level amy again or are we going to play second fiddle to the other marines with their gravgun spam and the horde armies with their waves? Leif Bearclaw
While I haven't got my dex yet (hopefully it'll arrive tommorow), I have to agree. A lot of the rumours (which is what they'll remian until I see my dex) seem to amount to nerfing (or weakening) what has been 'strong' in our book, with little gained to offset the the loss. Lothrik Stormbringer
Yeah, so didn't see this but, when do pre orders ship? First time pre orderer here. According to GW Customer Service, the items are set to ship Friday, so depending on your method of delivery, you probably won't get it by the weekend. I've gotten my tracking number this morning, meaning it's been shipped in GW's system, so the carrier will pick it up today. If you got Next Day, there's a chance you'll have it tomorrow, but if it went Standard, then you're looking at Monday~Tuesday.
