LordOrdGermany
Hi, since 2001 I do Warhammer 40k. The very base of my work are my so-called Industrial Formation Imperial Guard. Here is their background and pictures : Deep in the Segmentum Solar lies the Thay sub-sector encompassing two inhabited planets: Thay Mahyr and Thay Malarn.Since the Dark Ages Of Technology the sub-sector is inhabited by civilized, diciplined trustworthy servants of the Imperium. For 300 years these people were successfully ruled by the House Ord where also the Imperial Governors come from. The two planets can be compared with Holy Terra and its neighbor planet Mars. But instead of being cold and lifeless as Mars, Thay Mahyr was terraformed during the Dark Ages of Technology and is now the place where the barracks, training facilities and war factories are. According to that, Thay Mahyr is where the civilians of Thay life and also the place of the Imparial Palace. Huge cities are connected with each other all over the planet´s surface but were not allowed to turn into to Hive Worlds by careful policy. The Thay sector is blessed with uncountable amounts of minerals, iron and gas. No matter if you regard the gas-colonies within the asteroid belts of the two gas giants Thay Ularn and Thay Namaan, the uran mines of Thay Mahyr or the Dado-meat-factories of Thay Malarn, the wealth and gentle security of the average citizens is derived from the huge export turn-over to the Imperium. The official name for the regiments coming from Thay is Industrial Formation. After House Ord had come to power they started changing the army´s structure, to re-equip it and to focus on other issues. House Ord put much value on the fact that the efficiency of the Imperial Army is not only quantity but also quality. According to that and the fact that the major amount of the state´s money goes into the war budget even a single infantryman is equipped with expensive, useful tolls, amour and weapons. Every helmet is provided with a small energy device and a visor, allowing the soldier a better view over the battlefield. The "standard lasgun" is provided with a device, which allows the laser ray to be more focused and according to that more efficient. Finally the wide shoulder pads are the place for the company labels and the IF icon, proudly carried into battle. Last but not least: the fact that male and female persons serving the Industrial Formation all over the galaxy increases the moral of the whole army. Remarkable (and observed by the Inquisition) is the fact that half-human-species like ogryns, halflings and squats offered adoption to families and a place on Thay Mahyr and Thay Malarn. The tolerance leads to a better understanding between the different types of human beings and an increasing of battle power and efficiency by taking advantage of the specific skills of these half-human species within the already highly-efficient and highly-motivated army. Furthermore the soldiers within the Industrial Formation are ordered to act on behalf of mankind and it is not allowed to harm, injure or thread true servants of the Imperium during a campaign but on the contrary to integrate armed civilian forces for them to defend their planets. A true eye catcher is the moon orbiting Thay Mahyr, where all identification-labels of fallen soldiers were sent back throughout the whole galaxy. The family´s tradition is it to lay down those IDs on the moon and within the millenia it is now covered with them and in the bright sunlight of the sun Thay the surface of the moon is glittering beautifully like diamond. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000084$281$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1020734$281$29.JPG http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1020479$281$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/100_0449.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/ Share on other sites
LordOrdGermany
Basically my models are highly converted . I am using old Cadian metal heads and new plastic Cadian bodies to assemble each soldier. The special features are the visor and shoulder guards made of very thin brass. And the device on the barrel of each lasgun in order to make the lasguns more powerful. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/IF6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/#findComment-3763943 Share on other sites

scatmandoo
Great backstory and nice looking minatures. Not so keen on the lasgun upgrade but now I know why it is there I understand its use. WarriorFish
Some great pictures, I thought the first one was real for a moment! I love the conversion work as they remind me of the really old school Guard models mixed with a bit of Judge Dredd (not that the two universes are too far apart!). I look forward to seeing more :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/#findComment-3764140 Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
Background: Historic Battles of the Industrial Formation I hope it is interesting for you. I am a little bit insecure because of the little feedback...but let´s try:-) The interesting thing here is that the "Battles of the past" happened to be some of my real played games with armies of my friends and the "Current Battles" are the games I would love to play but haven´t found suitable opponents:-) (which basically are people I find likeable to play against/with) Battles of the past With it´s 300-year-old history the Industrial Formation is a realtively new Guard among the many of them. Though dispatched on numerous worlds in the galaxy few records of exceptional deeds reached the higher ranks and therefore interest of the Departemento Munitorium. Here are the 3 of them: On Agripinaa during the 13th Black Crusade Together with Space Marines of the "Sons of Hythis" Chapter and Eldar forces the Industrial Formation regiment on this planet stopped a massive invasion of an ork and chaos force. The enemy couldn´t be annihilated completely but stopped in the middle of a city where the forces endured until reinforcements could arrive. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/RSSpiel6-7.jpg (2003) On Xia-Man II against the Dark Eldar The Xia-Man sector in Segmentum Pacificus was troubled with sporadic but brutal eldar raids. The Industrial Formation was freshly send there to reinforce the PDF tropps, as a big raid took place. Just with great losses the horrible xenos could be eradicated completely. An IF trooper called Roland Ölspur earned greatest honoures after the battle (posthume) by destroying a battle barge of the enemy completely with all its special troops on it by a great shot from his plasma gun. On Mauu against the Tau The planet Mauu is a battleground of Tau and the Imperium for many decades. The battles go from skirmishes to open hostile advance. The IF was an is successful in holding the Tau forces at bay. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/TAUIMPI1.jpg (2006) Current Batlles Destination CLASSIFIED It must have been during the performance of the artillery regiments of the IF on Mauu against the Tau , that Inquisitor Mname visited Thay Mahyr and Thay Malarnn the homeworld of the IF regiments and asked for support. House Ord granted this support and sent 300.000 troops to his service. 4 artillery regiments and the rest infantry regiments were enlisted and "sucked" into the cargo ships sending them on a campaign against Hive Fleet Jormungandr. However the campaign is secret and only the most senior members of the Departemento Munitorium on Thya Mahyr and Malarnn know of its true target. It is said that the IF troops as many as they are are but a fragment of other Guard regiments, Space Marines from different chapters and even the Deathwatch to try out a new strategy against the Great Devourer. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/Sentinelos.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/#findComment-3767013 Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
@all Funny that you like my "oldschool-style" in particular. Ironically I wouldn´t have started WH 40 if GW hadn´t decided to modernize their designs. Examples: all Space Marine tanks and concerning the Guard miniatures I dislike the old design of the Basilisk and therefore bought only the Basilisks with closed hull by Forgeworld. But on the other side: yes! you are right. I grew up with the metal Cadians and their design and long before the new plastic ones came I had gathered a considerable ammount of my Industrial Formation with alterated metal Cadians. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1030674$281$29.JPG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/#findComment-3767944 Share on other sites

elmo
I think your way of taking the photos as "realistically" as possible looks great. The use of the brass on the shoulders looks good but I am also not sold on the lasgun modification, sorry. To me it is just too big or to much like a suppressor and it may have made more sense to go down the hellgun route and use a bit of guitar wire between the lasgun powerpack to a backpack using, for example, something we have all got loads of... voxsets but cut down so they don't look voxie any more if you know what I mean. The visors look good too and the mixture of them raised and lowered adds interest to the model. The colour scheme is nice in a grim dark way, and I like the back story - kudos to you for taking the time to think of one, keep it up. Take what I say about the lasguns with a pinch of salt as, afterall, it is only my opinion and I am sure there are many others that will disagree Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/#findComment-3771370 Share on other sites
LordOrdGermany
@Elmo9141 Don´t worry your critique is ok:-) With hindsight I think I wouldn´t do that again with the alteration of the lasgun but I have now 100 troopers equipped with it and to remove it is not possible. My idea originates from 2001 when it was my desire to let the lasgun look more "roomy"/big. @all When you like the background story: I will never forget the moment I got the idea to all this. I was riding my bike to our nearby lake to meet some friends and swim when suddenly the solution struck me and I instantly turned to hurry home again (the lake almost in sight:-). I was (and still am) lucky that my father runs a metal trade company and so I have access to such thin metal sheets. It was a hot summer day in 2001, when I first attached the first visors on my 10 first metal Cadian models. WarriorFish
Nicely done, this is a great idea for sneaking in an extra heavy weapon from your bits without having to worry about the pieces you only get 3 of in a box (nobody buys the single HWT boxes right?). I'll have to look into this once I've assembled my last HWS box :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294575-industrial-formation-imperial-guard/#findComment-3772569 Share on other sites
LordOrdGermany
Causualties You know I spend much time and effort in creating and playing (when I finally do) as-realsitic-as-possible environments on the tabletop. In a war there have to be casualties, always. This is an earnest matter for me. In the 40K universe one can easily loose sight of the fact that in every war people die. Creating these unfortunate ones reminds me of this and even if I win a battle or dream of battles and heroic deeds with my men I often have to think that no one of us wants to be one of these, isn´t it? http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000316$281$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000307$284$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000319$282$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000322$281$29.JPG And in colour/finished http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000312$281$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000313$281$29.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1000314$281$29.JPG And in an as-realsitic-as-possible-motiv http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/P1020141.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/100_0454.jpg Due to that it is important to me to say "Respect for all soldiers in the field" . Soildiers are important to defend us. In reality of course but also in the 40K universe!
