Here's what I've learned from playing / watching Unbound

I travel for business 2 to 4 days a week so I make it a point to visit various LGS. Below is what I've learned from playing and watching lots of Unbound games at the various LGS.

  • Rock-Paper-Scissors is even more pronounced with Unbound vs Unbound (should be no surprise there)
  • Battleforged lists can win often enough vs Unbound if Objectives are played
  • Edit - Unbound vs Unbound can still be immensely fun

Some general examples:

  • Ground Super Heavy lists - especially with D-Weapons (e.g. Titans, Knight Titans, IG Tanks, Daemons etc.) very often lose to super flying lists that can shoot (e.g. Tyranids - esp. with Haywire, Daemons w/psychic, all Vendetta / Valk, all Raven / Talon, etc.). Mostly because lots of ground Super Heavies have no weapons at all that can be fired at super flying lists (the former are all templates mostly)
  • Ground Super Heavy lists very often will kill super Seer Council or super Tau (e.g. all Riptide, Missileside, Crisis) lists. Mostly because of D-Weapon and Stomps on 6 ignoring all saves - and the former can catch / corner the latter with 12"+ moves.
  • Super flying lists will usually lose to super Seer Council and super Tau. MCs can't kill the super Seer w/Fortune easily, but super Seer (with lots of twin-linked) and super Tau (with Skyfire) can kill the flying MCs, and the super Seer / Tau can also capture O\bjectives (flying MCs can't while flying)
  • Super armor lists (e.g. all IG Tanks) are similar to ground Super Heavy lists - its usually a toss up and the former is very similar to the latter in terms of losing to super flying and winning against super Seer and super Tau (given sheer volume of Blast / Large Blast shots that will end up with missed Saves). Super armor does need an ablative screen (e.g. lots of Guardsmen in front of tank line) though to prevent close combat
  • Battleforged lists with lots of Objective Secured (like multiple Combined Arms with all Tacticals and Drop Pods or all Guard Platoons with Chimeras) can win against Super Heavy lists - because even with Apoc Blasts or D-weapons, Super Heavies don't have enough shots to kill like 200 Troops. Especially if the latter is in cover and goes to ground or the latter tar pits the few-in-number Super Heavies in close combat.
  • Course, Troop heavy Battleforged lists will lose to Unbound in Purge the Alien

Feel free to add or provide feedback, etc.

Edit - Some typos
