Jaton666
What do you guys think about the Iron priest pilot in the stormfang kit? Fluffwise would every stormfang and stormwolf have an iron priest piloting it? That would make a lot of iron priests at work in the depths of the fang. In 'Blood of Asaheim' a grey hunter pilots a thunderhawk, therefore it seems odd that iron priests would pilot the stormwolf. I know that you can't really see the pilot through the canopy but I think that I'm going to model a grey hunter in my stormwolf. Thoughts? Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i thought the same with my Raven Guard, and came to this answer for my armies: the pilots of my aircraft and drivers of my vehicles are either Marines who showed special aptitude for this task, or the remnants of squads who are no longer able to function in a group setting. Like if a grey hunter pack is down to 2-3 Wolves, but not really teaching material, they are assigned to a rhino or other vehicle to still contribute to the Chapter WLK Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294763-stormwolfstormfang-pilot/#findComment-3769019 Share on other sites
HvitrValdyr
IIRC fluff wise vehicle crew have always been Grey Hunters. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294763-stormwolfstormfang-pilot/#findComment-3769022 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
Yeah by the old fluff grey hunters were the usual pilots/drivers of vehicles. On occasion Long Fangs would act as drivers/gunners in predators because of their affinity for heavy weapons and their knowledge on where to target the enemy. Blood Claws are too reckless to be given anything to drive. In one of the BL novels a wolf scout was the pilot of one of the ships in the Fang too, so I think it is entirely down to the skills of the individual. I agree that there are too many vehicles for Iron Priests to be piloting them though so would stick with GH/LFs. muggs
2 Ed codex said that it was GH that piloted vehicles, BC ride bikes. Nothing mentioned in there about space/aircraft. Wispy
I'm okay with the retconn and happy to have a plastic iron priest head. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294763-stormwolfstormfang-pilot/#findComment-3769057 Share on other sites
Rune Priest Jbickb
I was thinking about swiping the bits of iron priest to make a converted one and replacing him with a grey hunter or tinting the windows (read painting them black Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294763-stormwolfstormfang-pilot/#findComment-3769090 Share on other sites

Haakon_Stormbrow
yeah i must say i feel it makes more sense to get a core transfer once you become an official pilot, it makes sense, grey hunter may be recruited, but i feel once they have established them selves as the best man for the job, that s when they get promoted to a iron priest. Urauloth
Swap out the iron priest components, install a GH, kitbash yourself an awesome iron priest, drink mead. I think, though, that while it makes very little sense for IPs to be flying every stormwolf (there's no way they're needed to pilot assault transports or that size if GHs can fly thunderhawks) that it does make sense for them to want to handle the stormfang's canonically rare helfrost destructor hands-on. They probably never let those things out of their sight, so I can see them taking them into battle personally.
