Araziel
Does anyone have any idea the best ways to unseal plastic cement? I have a load of Cities of Death buildings that I would like to be able to pull apart and reuse the parts for for my next project...if it comes to it I will just use a razor saw and carefully cut the pieces up, but if anyone knows of any ways to get the glue to unbond I would be so grateful! Any ideas? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294779-unsealing-plastic-glue/ Share on other sites
JeffTibbetts
Depending how well you glued them, you really can't easily pull plastic apart. Since it welds the pieces together, they're really one piece now. Sometimes I'll get lucky and realize I didn't do a great job gluing in the first place, but if it doesn't give easily a saw will give you better control. If you've got something like a chisel you can try to push that in and pry gently by rocking it back and forth, but I don't often have too much luck with this. Araziel
I was thinking I would likely have to spend a fair amount of time prying them apart in some form of another, but I thought it would be worth checking to see if anyone knew of any strange techniques that could at least soften the bond up a little - oh well! Looks like I will be spending the next few modelling sessions pulling apart an a Imperial sector! Many thanks for the reply. JeffTibbetts
Sorry, man. I'm not aware of any chemical or treatment that will soften a bond from plastic glue, other than more plastic glue. And that won't work unless it can get into the cracks. Even then it's far more destructive. elmo
If you are lucky then the model may have been undercoated before assembly and in this case dipping the model in a paint remover may help. I had a couple of devilfish from eBay that just fell apart during the paint stripping process ;) If that is not the case then there is no easy way apart from carefully using a knife along the join line.
