Help me jump the assembly chasm -- load out support

Greetings all,

Still tormented by the echoes of the warp, I've decided to venture into my first non-evil army. Now Space Wolves are  brutal and merciless, but their heads are in the right place.

My conundrum: I won't have my codex for next week, but I have 20 gray hunters / blood claws ready for assembly.

I really, desperately want to start them. My girlfriend and her Orky boyz can't wait to throw down on the battlefield.

I will do a unit of 10 and 10 respectively. I know people are down on G Hunters right now, but for fluff I want both represented.

Question:  how should I load these guys out with weapons, etc.  think of relatively safe bets that will provide versatility in small point games, because that tends to be what I play with her and my crew.

i know how horribly annoying these questions are. But I really would love to jump the chasm and assemble 'til dawn.

Suggestions?  I for one am fairly certain most people are passing on CCW upgrades for their Gray Hunters, but in reality I have no idea what the preferences shall be.

Not a power gamer, not a lazy gamer, just a Nurgle Marine who wants to try something new.

Hope someone can help me burn the midnight oil tonight with the alluring smell of zap a gap and the accompanying taste of Jagermeister.

Cheers and thanks,

~ Neurot

Spend the points give them CCW. It will be worth it. As for special weapons you cant go wrong with any of them, but generaly, buy two of the same. Power weapon would be great too (sword or axe) if you are using melter or flamer. Perhaps match the wolf guard with a combi weapon of the type the unit uses and yeah, the wolf standard sounds like something you will always want.

It's worth it if you can fit it in your transport.

Agreed; also in 5th/6th I had a lot of success running them as 11-man footsloggers with a TDA pack leader at the front to soak up wounds with his 2+ save. Perhaps not the most efficient use of a WGPL, 'tis true, but I had a lot of fun with it.

You used this game to have FUN??!! What kind of heresy is that??!! *get's the fire extinguisher*

End of Line

Excellent all, thank you.

For those times I want to keep them in just power armor, is the Wolf Guard box set different from the regular Wolf Pack kit?

I'm referring to this one:
