Another which Legion post...

I can see it working but what would you take as HQs? Chaplain? Considering its WB that would be the most fitting, but what about a Vigilator or Primus Medicae with Jump Pack?

Moritat Consul seems like a forgone conclusion, though they'd be taken on as an extra HQ.

I think Raven Guard would  work the best (since its where they originate from :p )

Infiltrate/scout that many mid-close range units and have a bunch of Storm Eagles/Fire Raptors/Darkwing Strom Eagles to provide extra fire power and I think you've got something decent.

For the XVII Legion, you MUST select a Champion or a Chaplain as a second HQ. So, for me, I'll be making a Praetor (so I can get the Angels Wrath rite of war), and a Chaplain who will act as my Herald.

Because....well, because.  :P  Fluff is my master.

This. Maybe you can make some "Loyalist" Night Lords and Alpha Legion to go with your Raven Guard. msn-wink.gif

Hey, whoa, easy there, chief. What's with the quotation marks, wink, and the sass? Do you doubt the VIII or XX had loyalists?

On topic, the best advice I can offer for your decision is which paint job would you hate to the do the least in large quantities?

How does empirical science work again? If there is no evidence..... ;)

Seeing as I have hardly painted in years it's hard to know. Saying that I painted a RG test last night, metals just need a little highlighting, and it wasn't to bad, and having a look at SSC shadow force dragomir he mentions that by adding individualism into each model it helped keep the painting interesting.

The Nomad Predation fleets were mentioned on the same page, 138. Also noted on page 140.

What I found interesting was that, even after the bloodbath of Istvaan, Corax made no attempt to call back the Predation Fleets at all to bolster his Legion's numbers. He despised their bloody tactics that much.

It was the Nomad Predation fleet that really stands out to me in the RG background. What I like is that, one, their numbers are not recorded, and two, the fact they were not recalled leaves them a s a wild card. Join the rebellion, sure they fought more with Horus then with Corax; do their own thing, why not, it's a big galaxy, they are on the edge of it, why not take a slice. But what I really like is that after saying up the options they will remember their oaths of loyalty to the Emperor and to the planet which birthed them, and when the Traitors start their siege, the ash clad will hunt from the shadows.

Instead he tried some other stunt. I can't remember the details, something about him trying to clone gene-seed so his legion could quickly join the fight again but the apothecaries of the legion ended up being alpha legion members and the gene-seeds were tainted and mutated and it further destroyed the legion through bloody infighting.
Originally(as in Pre-Gav Thorpe nightmare of nightmares), Corax made actually clones. The problem was that these clones mutated into raven-like monsters who Corax then used as shock troops to break apart well-defended Traitor positions and this went on until after the Scouring. Then, with each of the clones locked in their own cell in the Raven Tower, he went to each with a bolt pistol in one hand and granted them the Emperor's Mercy by his own hand. Shortly after that, he went into self-exile and was lost to Imperial record.

Then we get Gav Thorpe. Who decides to have plot-armored Alpha Legion infiltrate the Raven Guard. And Corax instead uses the Emperor's gene-tech to create super gene-seed. Omegon sabotages said gene-seed, which creates the mutants. And then after a series of "almost found out but for the grace of Gav Thorpe" the Alpha Legion infiltrators reveal themselves for the sole purpose of dying.

Aye, Gav destroyed that. But I had an idea, as the Predation fleet were their own entity, there is nothing to stop them taking part in their own experiments leading to the creation of the Weregeld as they were meant to be.

Cheers dude, just weathering powder. Not really that competent with it past mixing it up and slapping it on the base and the feet, but it seems to work.

Here's the Night Lord, well sort of. I haven't washed the metal or done stuff like bolt pistols and the pipes, and I used a rough brush. Really fun to paint though. I wanted a colour difference from bottom to top, like an early night sky. The lightening is a bit off but as a first attempt I think it's ok.

Still no closer, both were a pleasure to paint, but the Night Lords would probably look more attractive in a group, especially if I can get the lightening neater. I'm leaning towards the VIIIth, may re read prince of crows.

Dude, that raven guard looks sick. I'd keep him, If I were you.

Y'know, there were members of the VIII Legion who were outsiders to their own Legion as well....

A union of the Pale Nomads and the Crimson Sons would be an amazing thing to see....
