L30n1d4s
It appears that the old restrictions on combining Independent Characters with Thunderwolves and normal troops (or vice versa) has been lifted. With that in mind and the new Harald Deathwolf character who comes with Outflank, imagine this combo: -Harald Deathwolf and Ulrik the Slayer attached to... -10 TDA Wolf Guard, 8 equipped with Combi-Plasmas and 2 with CMLs Unit uses Harald's ability to outflank (with Acute Senses helping accuracy, of course), coming in an unleashing 20 Shots with Preferred Enemy (so re-roll 1 to hit, avoiding Gets Hot, and re-rolling 1s to wounds, usually meaning an almost "autowound" against most targets, due to re-rollable 2+ to wound). You can target enemy high value infantry/MCs (like Centurions, Battlesuits, Hive Guard, Wraith Guard, MegaNobz, Bullgryns, DW Terminators, Obliterators etc.), vehicles with weak side/rear armor, or even MCs (look out Wraith Knights, Riptides, Tervigons, Dreadknights, etc.). Meanwhile, the entire unit has Fearless, Counterattack, FNP(6+), and Preferred Enemy in case it gets assaulted (or for later turns, if it decides to assault itself) and Harald can subsequently split off and charge his own target while the Terminators do their thing. If Ulrik is your WL, then the whole unit gets Monster Hunter, making it even better at killing MCs in both shooting and CC. helterskelter
I didn't think you could ever avoid gets hot, even with rerolls? I seriously need to pick up the dex Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294895-harald-deathwolf-and-tdawgs/#findComment-3772079 Share on other sites
Natanael
Cool, but a bit expensive. If the enemy plays smart you have just wasted a lot of points for a unit in reserve that will have to walk to try and catch up. Quixus
I didn't think you could ever avoid gets hot, even with rerolls? I seriously need to pick up the dexWhat makes you think that? A reroll invalidates the previous roll. A 1 on the reroll would still cause "gets hot". The Gets Hot rule even explicitly says so. Rune Priest Jbickb
665 I think if all my math was good. I played Harold last night he was a beast. He and a squad of twc with stormshield killed a mailer fiend 5 termis with a sorceror, a squad of chaos marines, and polished off typhus. climbingcog
What was your full list using Deathwolf? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294895-harald-deathwolf-and-tdawgs/#findComment-3772280 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Seems like an expensive list to run for a tactic that while very cool and scary, may end up being useless. Plus I don't like the idea of a thunderwolf running with a pack of non-thunderwolves. This is just me however. As I said, would like to see what a full list with these guys featuring looked like. But just to add, I am only starting to write a similar list to what I've done previously. One unit I usually take is 4 Thunderwolves, all with storm shields and 1 with power fist (PF usually very helpful in my experience as rending doesn't come up nearly enough!). This works out at 245 points in new Codex; in previous codex it was 345 points - that's a massive difference!! Hellrender
What are Haralds Deathwolf's rules like btw? Not to ninja the thread, but i love good special characters (i like established lore characters/chapters/companies more than DIY). Is he any good? Not to ninja the thread, but i love good special characters (i like established lore characters/chapters/companies more than DIY). Is he any good? Yes. TW lords were always good, and he's one of those, but with a 12" LD bubble for TWC and FW and a fixed warlord trait that buffs those units. And outflank, but you knew that. When I make my Khornate warband of counts-as-TWC Skullcrushers I'll be taking him to lead them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294895-harald-deathwolf-and-tdawgs/#findComment-3772571 Share on other sites
Sohail187
i dont see the point of the outflank tbh though. If you keep them on the table u will get into combat turn 2 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294895-harald-deathwolf-and-tdawgs/#findComment-3772607 Share on other sites
Urauloth
I don't really see why you'd want to outflank with TWC either. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294895-harald-deathwolf-and-tdawgs/#findComment-3772625 Share on other sites
Squark
There is an apoc formation where it works (and is absolutely terrifying), but in a normal game, no, not usually Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294895-harald-deathwolf-and-tdawgs/#findComment-3772646 Share on other sites
