skeletoro
Hi all, Just thought I'd put this here as a starting point for building a Space Wolves force. It's certainly not the only way to go (I have left out SWU even though it's a good one, because both it and CAD are all about troops, making fielding them alongside one another more complicated). Given how good the +1WS perk in Champions of Fenris is (and given how awesome Thunder wolf Cavalry are, especially with this bonus), I anticipate many players wanting to use the detachment in the supplement. So here's a template illustrating how you combine it with CAD so that you get pretty much all the benefits of both detachments. _______________________ Detachment 1: Company of the Great Wolf Detachment. 1 HQ (suggestion: close combat monster such as a wolf lord) 2+ elites (suggestion: 2 packs of WG terminators or bikers. OR two iron priests on thunder wolf mounts to add to your TWC packs, if you favour TWC). Be sure to put all your wolf guard units (including TWC) in here to benefit from Kingsguard (+1WS) Detachment 2: Combined Arms Detachment. 1 HQ (suggestion: support character such as Rune Priest or Ulrik) 2+ troops (suggestion: 2 packs of grey hunters in drop pods) Be sure to put all your troops in here so that they can benefit from Objective Secured. _______________________ That's just a starting point. Each additional unit will need to be allocated to one or the other detachment. Often it will make little difference which detachment you place a unit in (if they are not troops or WG units). Most of the SW auras/buffs seem to apply cross-detachment (but typically only SW faction). Note, though: Kingsguard applies to WGPL, meaning your Long Fangs, Swift claws, etc might want to be placed in the CotGW detachment if they have wolf guard pack leaders. Also, note that characters in the GW detachment get preferred enemy in challenges, but they also must accept challenges!! You might decide to keep Rune Priests (for example) in the CAD if you don't want them to always accept challenges (alternatively, make sure they are always accompanied by another GW character to fight on their behalf). Also, note that the two formations have different relic lists, with some good choices on both side of the fence. Ditto for warlord traits. Rift Blade
I'm thinking it was a good idea to order the Champions of Fenris after reading this. Thanks for the post. climbingcog
I was going to start a new thread about the detachments, but this seems a good place to post my question. Can someone outline the differences between the detachment options and the pros and cons? With it not being in a discrete thread (as far as I can see) the discussion around this is being lost.
