Fire Golem
Well no, aren't some of the chaos armour parts MkVII? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294973-using-40k-components-in-heresey-forces/page/2/#findComment-3774584 Share on other sites
Hyaenidae
Many. There are some nice Mk V chest pieces in the CSM boxes, some great shoulderpads, and one or two heads that could be converted with a little work, but almost everything else in there is Mk VII. Fire Golem
Yeah I thought so. And didn't only some of the loyalists have MkVII VERY late in the Heresy? Hyaenidae
At the Siege, yes. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294973-using-40k-components-in-heresey-forces/page/2/#findComment-3774665 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
That said, there were designs that could obviously be seen as precursors to the Mk VII that were used early on in the Heresy. Such as the Sarum pattern used by the World Eaters. So, provided it was diluted throughout the army, Mk VII helmets could simply be Mk IV variants, as seen amongst the XVI and XII Legions in Betrayal. Hyaenidae
A little modification can go a long way. I'll stick with my beakies, personally. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294973-using-40k-components-in-heresey-forces/page/2/#findComment-3774673 Share on other sites
Fire Golem
Beakies are the latest I'm gonna go with mine, just to be on the safe side ;) I like the MkV from forge world, but I haven't seen any models in it in any pictures on their website or in any of the books or anything, was it actually used at all? Fire Golem
Oh. Thanks :) just confused me cos it's not even under the HH section on their website, and I haven't seen any of those plates with MkV (well apparantly not since Betrayal anyway...) Scaler
This is purely opinion but from what I've seen scattering a primitive looking MKVII helm here and there looks pretty cool. My logic for the "right" ratio uses the old tac marines boxes where you only got 1 beakie helm for every 10 bodies. Think of it like an advanced rebreather prototype that not everyone had access too. Or then again you could flesh out some fluff and say there was an environmental hazard your marines where facing and everyone had to adopt a Sarum style helm. Hyaenidae
Again, remember that the Mk V pattern is pretty much ANYTHING locally produced, and not sanctioned by Mars. Anything crazy that you could come up with, could be considered Mk V, whether it be the ol' studded version, or whatever. Personally, I'm chopping away at a few of those Raptor heads, in an effort to create some strange Mk V helms that have been scavenged off of battlefields on the way to Terra. Fire Golem
Yeah I know that MkV is basically 'anything that isn't Mk II, III, IV, VI, or VII' but it just seemed odd that they make that MkV kit and it's not on the HH section, and rarely crops up in the art. But yeah, I've seen some of your different armour in your IW, and it looks pretty cool, I guess there were probably loads of different forge worlds modifying or making their own armour, and then techmarines would get their hands on it (especially in the shattered legions, field repairs and stuff...) And then you have legion specific ones, like the EC have those weird almost masked ones, WE with the Sarum pattern, pretty sure the UM have their own helmet design, Corvus armour for the RG, etc...
