Alpha Legion Representation

The sad part is that I really the ideas. RG getting some spotlight. Great. Al infiltrates other legions - certainly in their "Our Plan Bs have Plan Bs" mindset. RG genetic dymorphism and Corax desparation to go there - sounds onteresting.

But then it reads like an Episode of "The A Team" plotwise and with less pacing. And as Wade fittingly noticed EVERYONE involved acts like a complete Idiot.

"Mission Impossible" (any) has better covert ops setup

Guards in Hogan's Heroes are more astute than RG veterans....

It is a shame because Gav really cooks up some great plot ideas...

similarly, i've had friends come back from combat and seem the same. i've seen others go on holidays overseas and return with new accents. i suppose it just depends on where your personal boundaries of disbelief suspension lie. i couldn't fault anyone for finding it a bit much, but i can also understand someone wanting to forgive it and enjoy the story. for me, it was just "there", as kol puts it.

I think that perhaps I've just been fortunate with the people I personally know in that everyone has been extremely supportive of them, and they've had only minor problems readjusting versus the horror stories I've heard about other soldiers and vets. But then again, they could just be really good at hiding it.

IMO Shouldn't the RG confronted with the Istvaan surviviors be even more worried then?

Whille it is more likely to be credited to some PTSD thingy than a "you act wierd - are you, by any chance, Alpharius"Responses ....

Since Astartes are no longer human AND built for combat situations , PTSD like symptoms/ behaviour should be expected waay less than in a human (IMO this is included in all that mental condition /genetech that gibt's that ATSKNF edge)....

A traumatized Astartes BROTHER should raise so many red flags...

That would complicate the AL Mission most .. The Insecurity of their brothers, who are disturbed by one of their own suffering Post PTSD in the first place and without sufficient experience of what to do with them..

There are some nice scenes, I thought, in DL between the Raven Guard who stayed on the homeworld and the survivors of Isstvan. Those who didn't experience Isstvan feel guilt at not being there for their brothers, but also feel frustrated that the survivors don't talk to them about their experiences and what happened. It causes a bit of a rift in the Legion.

Like you say, Astartes are no longer human and they're built for combat situations. While you could argue that few of them would have encountered combat as unrelenting as the Dropsite Massacre (I dunno, I think it probably got pretty hairy during the Great Crusade) I think what really messes them up is the fact that the combat shouldn't have happened, if their deeply held/conditioned values were true. I'm not saying that warriors who fought for 400 straight days to stay alive can just shrug it off. But also they have to rethink their entire philosophy of life. A big deal for a lot of Astartes who seem to have strongly ingrained belief systems. So really, everyone in the Legion is suffering from a trauma on some level.

It's like with Loken. The combat on Isstvan III, and losing Tarik, was hard on him. But he'd lost friends before, a lot of them. Arguably, the fact it was his beloved Primarch and his former brothers in the Mournival who were responsible for these deaths, that was was what really did a number on him. Loken went - literally - insane for a while. The Raven Guard's situation isn't quite comparable, but I think they (generally) show a lot of restraint in comparison.
