Wispy
So I'd heard only 1 hammer/shield dread per army, but upon reading the codex I can't see such a rule? Tis a lie. Kaime
I am worried that my new dreads won't be as helpful against my friends tau. Lots of fusion, and the bastards jump around alot. Wondering how Murderfang would do against his riptide? If murderfang gets to charge the riptide, then he should kick his face in. Tau have crappy weaponskill and he is strong enough to wound easily and ignore its armor save. then its down to a 5++ or a 3++ if they used their reactor. One to two combat rounds, depending on whether or not he buffs the shield. Main issue is that the dread would probably just die before it gets to charge :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295078-new-ven-dread/page/2/#findComment-3776931 Share on other sites
Urauloth
I don't see how you'd catch a riptide with murderfang, tbh. Since I'm forcing myself not to add to my mini backlog until I get this grey hunter pack done and thus don't have the kit yet, I have a modelling question about the vendread: how easy would it be to swap out its head? It doesn't look as though it uses the same kind of mounting as the SM vendread at all, so I'm guessing not very easy. I don't like either of the head options (something off about the wolfskull imo, I think it's the eye lense, and the helmet is a type I avoid using on my wolves and also staring straight ahead in a dull manner) so I'd like the option of using a helm of my own, but this looks as though it would be... awkward. I just glued the wolfhead helmet from GH box ,fits easy if you file it down a lil bit. Valerian
So I'd heard only 1 hammer/shield dread per army, but upon reading the codex I can't see such a rule? No such limitation. HA! Val mine still has the banner on it! Mine had the banner on it, but I didn't want it and actually mailed it to Grey Mage a few years ago, along with a few other old-school banners. jester262
I played against my buddies Emperor's children yesterday. That thing picked up half his army all by his lonesome. Bloody Legionnaire
So, how does the shield work in CC? Are you allowed a save against any attack that successfully glances or is it pens only? I now think I'm going to be able to run my list effectively now because of how good these dreads are. Dreadnoughts supporting GHs and BCs in Drop Pods right in the opponents face on turn one! How do you think the ven dread compares to Murderfang? I have a feeling the ven dread is probably better than a shooty dread because of the shield. Toasterfree
saves against everything from the front. the only time you dont hit the front of a walker in CC is when its immobile Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295078-new-ven-dread/page/2/#findComment-3777984 Share on other sites
Urauloth
Does anyone have the model yet? I'm curious about stealing the multi melta for a non-wolf Dreadnought It was going to be the first thing I bought after the codex, except I wound up preordering the supplement instead. I should have one in another week or so if nobody else does, and if so I'll snap some component pictures. I'm certain people must have these things by now, though. Just the hanging gem is 'wolfy' not built a vanilla dread so unsure if it attaches the same way etc. Hope that helps http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx85/ElazarTheGlorified/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-08-15080015_zps5deb8ca1.jpg My Venerable Aslak Trond pre painting and decorating. Jaarl Stormfang
Absolutely fantastic. The head you've chosen looks soooo much better than the wolf skull head GW show in the pictures. Valerian
Agreed. Much better head option there. Even if I were to model Murderface, I'd use that head, rather than the goofy exposed Wulfen head. Z00Z
I finally have figured out what seems wrong to me on the ven dread model. Im kinda hoping my wolf brothers can confirm whether its possible to rotate the axe hand or is it cast like that? It just seems to me he hits you with the axe like a tennis racquet. Something aint right in the stance of hand and angle of the axe? Elazar The Glorified
It's always at that angle out from the arm. You could probably chop it and move it round but as is yeah it's always going to be blade to the side. Which looks odd but in defence of the sculptor I think the only way it'd hit anything it by rotating it's waist anyway as there doesn't look to be enough movement in its arm to use an axe ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295078-new-ven-dread/page/2/#findComment-3779016 Share on other sites

Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I would love to repose the Ven Dread much like Arjac, shield in front and the axe to the back. As if in mid swing!! I actually like the robotic eyes skull head, myself. But as usual, I am interested in the bits no one else is!! Remember, I love the He-Man head!! :P End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295078-new-ven-dread/page/2/#findComment-3779129 Share on other sites
tvih
If one wants the axe in a more traditional pose, could just procure the right arm of an Ironclad or Furioso/DC Dread and attach the axe hand to one of those.
