People views on Stormclaw Terminators

Recommended Posts

Thought I would come up with a quick and easy name for the wolf claw/storm shield terminators and I want to know what people think of them?

I mean for normal terminators (ie not those in units as leaders) they cost the same as 2 claws or thunderhammer storm shield and with  the protection of the storm shield AND the powerful attacks at normal speed for the wolf claws they will make a suprising combanation.

I like the name and when toying with how to build my terminators up it was coming down to how many. In the end I think I am sold on 1x th/ss, 1x frost axe/sb, 1x 2 claws and 2x stormclaws. Seemed that it was nice a varied model wise and throw in a wolf priest with that relic giving furious charge and a flyer.. Rather hardy.. Maybe not even needing the flyer with that number of invulns..

My biggest fear running the terminators like that is being kited you have exactly one ranged weapon in that unit... Personally I would drop the dual claw guy for a stormbolter and power/frost axe or a cyclone launcher.

The trouble I have with that is that time spent shooting is time not spent getting close to the enemy. I'm inclined to give packs a more focussed build. Some get stormbolters and assualt cannon/CML to act as a mobile firebase and close combat counter assault unit, some all close combat to be line breakers. If they're not in close combat they should be running towards it.

I really like the claw/ss build. I plan on running this unit:

WC/SS x 2

TH/SS x 2

WC/WC x 1

I would love to put an AC in there, but as Kravin said, I want these guys to run, whether it be to spread out after DS or to push/block a unit for the TWC to hit them.

I am just now startign to build mine, that sounds like a great combo, I do have one question, excuse the noobness, I was thinking of building dedicated termie units (cc, or ranged). Why do people build them with different weapons in the same type of squad? ie a close combat squad has 2x  ss/th, 2x wc/ss and 1x wc/wc? Why not just equip them all with wc/ss?

Thanks for any help

you going to have to weather some overwatch fire on charge, which if you are up against tau, amounts to a mass fire, especially if they have supporting fire. 2x SS/WC are there to give some protection to ap2 fire with the SS sheld save

Not too noobish really. Mostly when I do it it is because I want some units hitting at initiative to cause alot of harm up front (wolf claw or sword) and then the thunder hammers (or power fist or ax) finish with a strong high ap beat down.

Fair enough I tend to use my terminators in similar ways just tossing out the other side of the coin as my army lists tend to be more jack of all trades matter of none for the most part.
