Brother Darklight
Greetings, Battle Cousins! Templar player here! I've started up a custom chapter based off a colour scheme my buddies and I used back when we played Dawn of War 2 all the time. Here's a test marine: http://i.imgur.com/z8IKCx1.jpg Now as it stands, I've decided to make this chapter a sort of for-giggles thing, and the unit loadouts of what I've got going are far from optimal, But I've decided to make them with the ruleset of Space Wolves in mind! Two reasons for this. 1) As a native Black Templar player, I miss having a CC oriented codex, and yours seems to scratch that itch quite well! 2) I have these guys as HQs: http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Space-Marine-Masters-of-the-Chapter ...and the Wolves Unleashed FoC would let me use all 4 at the same time without going Unbound! Yay! Now, in spirit of this chapter being the one my buddies and I set up back in DoW2, each of those 4 guys represents one of us from that group and as such, each has a 5 man squad (from spare bits laying around) loaded out like so: (Orange Pauldron band) - 'Battle' company. Favours a little bit of everything to get the job done. * Captain (Wolf Lord or Battle Leader) w/ PowerSword, Powerfist * 5 Grey Hunters. Leader w/ Storm Bolter, one Grey Hunter with Plasma gun(Red Pauldron band) - 'Assault' company. Speed and Aggression. * Captain (Wolf Lord or Battle Leader) w/ Power Axe, Storm Shield, Jump Pack * 5 Skyclaws. one with power sword (Bright Green Pauldron band) - 'Support' company. Walk Softly, and carry a big gun. * Captain (Wolf Lord or Battle Leader) w/ Power Sword, Storm Bolter* 5 Longfangs. Ancient w/ Plasma Gun, 4x Heavy Bolters (Gold Pauldron band) - 'Close-Battle' company. Intimidation through either numbers or through devastating blows. * Captain (Wolf Lord or Battle Leader) w/ Thunder Hammer * 5 Bloodclaws. one with Power sword. Each of the four of these was inspired by our play styles, and thusly I've set the tone for each of these 'Companies'. "What's the point, ya bloodly Templar?!" Right.. The point here is I want to flesh this out to a 1500 point army, but I'm totally fresh to Space Wolves. I know you guys are busy sorting out the new book, trying to figure out what works and what doesn't, but this won't be a competitive army at all. This is literally a really fluffy custom Chapter, or at least 4 companies of one, using the Space Wolves dex. The TL:DR; My question to you guys is this: What Space Wolf units would you guys use in a (very) just-for-fun list, and which of the 4 above 'companies' based on their vague description would you classify it under? Footnote: The chapter in question won't look "Wolfy" in the sense that I'll be using regular marine models for basically everything. Rune Priest Jbickb
I think gold should have 15 Blood claws. I know your fluff says each leads a 5 man squad, but your description of intimidating through numbers screams 15 Blood claws to me. When u say u are going for a 1500 point list what are you looking for from a request stand point? To fit your theme I was thinking each could take a dedicated transport that fit their style, like the long fangs guys get a razor back, the intimidating guys gets a storm fang and the all a rounder guy gets a land raider and as the skyclaws done have a transport up them to 10. Don 't have my Dex so I didnt cost it out to see if that suggestion fits point wise, but it sounds fun. And I think it fits your fluff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295112-your-help-building-a-custom-chapter/#findComment-3776432 Share on other sites
Brother Darklight
Expanding those 5 man squads is totally doable by my standards. Those 5 man squads were just what I had laying around and I was using them to just get a feel of what each company's favoured styles are. 15 blood claws sounds like fun. I play casual games with a few friends, and we like doing thematic/narrative campaigns. So really it doesn't matter what goes in this list, but since I have no idea how to use the Space Wolves units (first game will be tonight with my Templars as proxies) I was hoping to get some input on what units are actually quite fun to field by the more veteran Space Wolf players' experiences! As an example, I was looking at Lone Wolves, and they seem like they'd be fun to use but I can't for the life of me figure out what he's for or what role he'd fill in the army. Are they fun to use? Are they a complete waste of points? That kind of thing. I like the sound of the various transports for the different companies! That's not a bad idea... Heck, I have a Redeemer that was going to painted Black and White... Might paint it blue and green instead! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295112-your-help-building-a-custom-chapter/#findComment-3777361 Share on other sites
Rune Priest Jbickb
Ah, now I understand a bit better got a little confused but no worries. :) Lone wolves are fun, I only have one game in with them but they can bring the pain and did very well for me last edition. I have had fun so far with murderfang he is scary enough for distraction and killy enough to get the job done. I have heard good things about 5 he axe/shield Dreadnaught as well but have not yet tried them. Grey hunters have always been good to me. Even so far in their slightly pricier rendition. Haven't tried yet but there is some talk that wolf guard bikers are the new way to roll bikes, I might build a squad and give en a shot. Hope this helps some Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295112-your-help-building-a-custom-chapter/#findComment-3777463 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Sounds like you have a fun theme going on. I am still puzzling over the codex myself. DOnt forget to take pictures and let us know how you got on and how you thought each unit performed :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295112-your-help-building-a-custom-chapter/#findComment-3777465 Share on other sites
