Reede
Can't assault out of a lucious anymore. Actually I contacted Forgeworld about this a couple months ago. The Lucius is still an Assault vehicle, however you can't assault out of it the turn it arrives due to Deepstrike rules. The big line is there's nothing saying you must disembark the turn it comes down. So you sit the dreadnought in for a turn, and then next turn comes the Murder Make. The really great thing is since it's open-topped, if you guy has a flamer, anything nearby (especially mobs) goes fwoosh. Dyemor
Yup, you can stay on board a Lucius Drop Pod and its counted as an open topped vehicle. You can shoot and assault from it.If we were allowed to take it I'd stick a Mortis Pattern Contemptor with a pair of the Kheres assault cannons in it and just have it shoot everything within 24"... but failing that, a 1 turn delayed MURDERBOMB is a nice alternative. Can't wait to get him into combat and tell someone he's getting 7-9 attacks :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295117-murderfang/page/2/#findComment-3777338 Share on other sites
Reede
Another great thing about the Lucius is it's Burning Retros rule, which gives it shrouded on the turn it arrives. It's somewhat risky (1 in 6 chance) but land the thing in either Area Terrain or Ruins. So that, with the addition of shrouded from Retros and you've now got a dreadnought drop pod that you can assault out of, 12AV, and a 2-3+ cover save. Strike fear into the heart of the Allfathers enemies. At least if my rules interpretation is correct, in that those two terrain types say any MODEL (including vehicles is my weird point) within the terrain gets the cover save. knife&fork
A hot tip for having your close combat dreads survive is to use your smoke launchers. Pop smoke when you arrive if you need cover, a single HF is wasted on units with 3+ anyway. Protect your rear AV. Pop smoke before a charge if there's a good chance you'll wipe the target unit. You'll have a 5+ cover in your opponents turn and it might even save you from a lucky overwatch hit. O sweet somehow I thought the lucious was forcing us out there by invalidating the option glad to know this is not the case. But deffo use this for normal/ven dreads arriving via pods etc popping in the turn you actually charge is a good one, never thought to do that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295117-murderfang/page/2/#findComment-3777407 Share on other sites
Valerian
Val, With the Wolves Unleashed you could take you two compulsory HQ and attach one to a unit of Hunters in theit dedicated transport and then the other on a TWM to the TWC and then outflank them. But the Hunters would only get to Outflank on a 4+ (50/50, so not bad odds) whereas the TWC are only coming in via Outflank on a 6 (not great odds at all). Neither are good enough odds to form your battle plan around, in my mind. V 3+ with an HQ attached. I am gambling a little, yeah. And I'm running Harald, who has Outflank and would join the TWC. That's a guaranteed Outflank. You sure it's a 3+ to get the Outflank for Troops with an IC attached? I thought it was 4+. Normally 6+, but you get +2 to the roll for Troops with ICs attached, right? Even the 'he's too crazy to use them' doesn't really gel, as he apparently has the nous to use a storm bolter and heavy flamer.
