ZONKEY
Hi, just a minor question do the wulfen still exist in the fluff or are they written out? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295128-regarding-the-wulfen/ Share on other sites

Leif Bearclaw
Most certainly, if you count Murderfang, there's even a Wulfen in the rules. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295128-regarding-the-wulfen/#findComment-3776404 Share on other sites
ZONKEY
I wonder why the wolves didn't get a model or unit of them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295128-regarding-the-wulfen/#findComment-3776405 Share on other sites
Leif Bearclaw
Because full blown Wulfen aren't present in the modern Space Wolves, only the 13th Company fielded Marines in the full grip of the curse that were somewhat controllable. Previous versions of the codex did include the Mark of the Wulfen, representing a Marine in which the beast was closer to the surface than normal, but not a full Wulfen. There was never a model for the Mark though, which may explain it. Or they could be holding back the Wulfen goodies for a 13th Company supplement, if the rumours about that existing ever pan out . Wispy
Wulfen are still present in the fluff but are scaled back in that they aren't available in individual squads anymore.. Wraithwing
Didn't the EoT fluff mention that the Wulfen curse was in response to the effects of Chaos? That the Canis Helix protected them from the curse of Chaos by them Wulfening out? Leif Bearclaw
Not exactly, although the Helix does appear to offer a measure of resistance to warp corruption, this resistance was theorised in universe (well, an IA article iirc) as the explanation for the 13th remaining uncorrupted despite 10,000 years in the Eye. But the 13th were already stricken with the curse of the wulfen (at least) pre-Heresy, just not bad enough to devolve fully into Wulfen and fail the Astartes creation process. Being in the eye didn't make them 'more wulfen' they were already like that, it just enabled them to survive the Eye. Of course the curse may manifest in other Wolves upon warp exposure, but I can't remember reading that for certain. skeletoro
the current codex says: To become one of the Wulfen is to fall from grace, and to roam the wilderness for evermore as a creature of the darkest night, or to be captured by his former brothers and held as a caged beast until the time is right for them to be set loose in battle.
