Grim Dog Studios
I love the Elysian figures and wanted to start a small force that would have have some SM allies attached for fluff reasons (understrength chapter deploys with the highly trained pdf forces from its homeworld). So.. I was just wondering what everyones opinions were on running Elysians. I want the core of the force to made up of veterans in valkyries, but other than that I'm not entirely sure which direction to take, or what rules to use (AM codex, D-99 list or IA3 Taros list). At the moment I am thinking about the new D-99 list, as their veterans seem to have better stats than those of the veterans from the other two, however AFAIK they can't take doctrines? (Haven't got the book, don't want to buy one until I've settled on what list to use!) Or I was thinking maybe using them as storm troopers with the Militarum Tempestus codex. However if I do this I can't use sentinels, which I have a secret love for. Any help would be greatly appreciated! WarriorFish
The most recent thing I've learnt about Elysians almost made me spit out my tea. Almost, but I wouldn't want to waste any tea but the thought that FW are not just putting out underpowered lists but are quite happy to admit to doing so was not something I was happy to hear. So I think armed with this knowledge (it'd be good if someone can source the quote us so we may validate it and have something to shake our fists at :P ) the first decision is which codex to use. I'd say the Guard codex would be best, but then you're not doing Elysians "properly" that way so it comes down to what you want from your games. If you're not fussed about being competitive then I'd say go with an Elysian list :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295235-what-is-the-best-list-to-use-for-elysians/#findComment-3778500 Share on other sites

If you're not fussed about being competitive then I'd say go with an Elysian list I'm not too bothered about using a "proper" elysian list, just mainly want the force for the elysian minis themselves. I suppose by using the normal AM dex it also allows me to add tanks etc if I ever want them, whereas by using an elysian list I am limiting myself to only having air support and the tauros'. WarriorFish
In that case I think you'd be best off with the normal codex, you'd lose out on the special Elysian units but gain much more plus you could still use the Elysian Sentinels if you wanted :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295235-what-is-the-best-list-to-use-for-elysians/#findComment-3778548 Share on other sites
