gomericus
Hello fellow bolterites I poss a question to you fine folk. What armies or themes would you love to see used, have thought of but never built. The ones I have used are a Napoleonic themed IG/AM army. Unified color scheme for my Brets using the coat of arms of the Duke to standardize the rest of the army instead of each unit and or knight being different. Things Ive thought of but have never built. Three musketeers empire themed army Something tron themed, probibly tau, Red Devils paratroop themed IG army WWII marines loyal marines using the chaos codex, with things like angels and what not instead of demons. Grotsmasha
An ab-human type IG/AM Regiment, Beastmen, that sort of thing. incinerator950
Genestealer Cults, Zoats, Squats, Chaos Knights, full Ascendant C'tan back in control, the II and XI Legions. Off the top of my head. Phantomzero17
In line with the things I've thought about but never built. Karoliner (Carolean) themed IG/AM Army Cobras Fumantes themed IG/AM Army Arbites themed force simply so I could start off every game by telling my friends the safe word. A Loyalist force using the Kromlech Samurai bits as well as bits from Wargames factory's Rising Sun. Ion
Something I'd like to do, but have too many other pies in the oven so to speak. Human piloted tyranids. MIU implanted into synapse creatures to allow a human to control not just one tyranid but also the smaller ones. Tyrants and Carnifexi with smoke stacks and human replacements for some weapons... It would be fun at least. Stercus
I like the idea of a guard regiment with tyranid parasites infecting them fighting alongside the hive mind. Imagine a sort of frog/spider/slug creature that wraps round the back of the neck with probes sticking into the guardsman's spine to operate him like a meat-puppet. You could use the rules for gaunts, or just run them in an unbound list. Chaeron
Anything that's creative and goes against the grain is fine by me. Recently, an Imperial Guard Genestealer cult has caught my eye... What I'm doing with my Daemons is something out of the ordinary - but exciting! Teetengee
Nonsexualised female army (other than Sisters, in part because they are still somewhat sexualized, in part because I have never seen a sisters model in person :(, and in part because I would like to see someone do it in a non power armour form like daemons/guard/tau). Also chaos eldar is something I am planning on starting up in the next few weeks, I have wanted to do it for years. Firepower
Semi-unhinged terror-tactics Tau. Night Lords meets Tau, basically I tried several times years and years ago, but my GS-fu is weak. Weeping Angels (though I intended to call them Gargoyles, the principle is fairly similar). Blood Angels painted as granite, with just the occasional embellishment of red or gold. Not really that hard modelling wise, but painting granite is...tough. I wish I could be a bit more adventurous in customizing my Broken Arrows and Templars, too. I'm 99.9% kitbash. The Hollowed/Grave Wardens (screw Forge World, I came up with that name years ago :P). A (probably Chaos) Space Marine army done up entirely in this fashion- That would be suuuuuper hard, though. That whole model, for instance, is held together by the cape. Cornelias
40k mechanicum army would be awesome now there is official models, Genestealer cults just because the old models were so cool or i'd like to see the Hrud expanded on. Trevak Dal
A full Halo Themed warhammer army, complete with UNSC Marines/Troopers, and ODSTs (Imperial Guard with Storm Troopers, valkaries), and Spartans...maybe Legion of the Damned to represent them, or Normal Vanilla Marines. Covenant Horde...using Old Black Templar rules. Seriously-the Old Emperor's Champion Is an Arbiter. I'd also like to see something similar with Unbound Space Wolves or Vanilla Marines with Imperial Guard conscripts-cheap ICs that join Grunt-Like units and make them better, and have Count-as Centurions for Hunters. The neat thing would be allowing Tau Devilfish as troop carriers for said army.A Chaos Chosen Wing army, where the Chosen/Chaos Space Marines have brown coats over their armor, and are painted up as red corsairs, with the Serenity Kanji on a banner or something.StarCraft Terran Marine army, probably based off of a Terminator army (Deathwing, GK Knightwing -> used to be you could even get a Ghost in it with an assassin within the codex)Gears of War themed army. Probably best with a Cultist heavy CSM army, with a single unit of Chosen (Delta Squad). Army of the Confederacy in Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace themed army, complete with Space/Cyborg Stonewall Jackson, Space/Cyborg Robert E. Lee. 30k or CSM army, or Imperial guard I'm thinking (large numbers of troops) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295344-converted-armies-youd-love-to-see-on-the-table-top/#findComment-3784285 Share on other sites
Lord Commander Scrymgeour
I second a Hrud army, you could use Skaven / night goblins as the base But while we're thinking of humanity being resplendant I'd like to see fenrisian PDF (regardless of if they exist or not) - I'd use a mix of marauder, catachan and space wolf bits, in fact IIRC the manager at GW manchester had something similar using one of those giant ogre kingdoms monsters as a base for a basilisk... The interex would be cool, you could use pretty much the entire GW range to come up with all sorts of tech. Astartes-ULTRA
Not exactly a converted "army" but I'd like to see a Necromunda/Gorka-type game involving Rogue Traders in typical bitter rivalries on spaceports, excavation sites, bar brawls and other swashbuckling fun (not hanging on a pirate theme completely but if it could be fun I'd say roll with it) Building up your crew and abilities and riches of course, that sort of thing Take a mad captain, a hotshot first mate, throw in a couple of xenos, some exotic weapons and kit, going on quests, politics and backstabbing. Who wouldnt want a slice of that...? Grotsmasha
Assuming I am recalling correctly, Inq28 is just GW's Inquisitor game at 28mm scale rather than 54mm scale, then yes, Inq28 has Rogue Traders, there's even two named Rogue Traders to choose from. Astartes-ULTRA
Still doesnt sound the same, from my reading there are a multiple of imperial agents involved (inquisitors, ad mech, assassins, astartes, rogue traders, ecclesarchy, daemon hosts, etc) I agree there are a couple of small similarities but just having a couple of rogue traders on board doesnt make it what I meant. It doesnt seem to be on the level/scale/scape I am talking about either. Rogue Traders travel far and wide into the great unknown, establishing trade ties, seeking out treasures, trading with unsightly folk and spaceship battles amongst other things. There are books about the inquistors/ordos and a game of that stature didnt last long but there are books about the Rogue Traders too which I think would provide a great necro/gorka type game allowing character development and enviromental impact or even a small LOTR/mordhiem style warband-type skirmish game with a simpler with over-powered characters. Other pirate-posses could be in the game too, like Eldar and Dark eldar pirates/corsairs, Ork pirates, Tau enclaves, Chaos raiding parties, it need not be an all-imperial venture. The more I think about it the more exciting it sounds lolAfter a quick google search I see there is an rpg ersion of Rogue Traders with a selection of books, can anyone enlighten me as to what this game/books are like? marine7312000
If I'm not mistaken they're releasing a new edition of the Rogue Trader RPG books so you may be able to pick up the older books pretty cheap. As for the game itself, I've never played it but have taken a pretty in-depth look through them. There are five games that share a common set of rules: Rogue Trader focuses on exploration, Dark Heresy has you playing as members of an Inquisitor's acolytes, Deathwatch introduces Space Marines, Black Crusade is the Chaos faction, and Only War focuses on the Imperial Guard. The "classes" are based around 40k professions. The classes in the Rogue Trader set are Rogue Trader, Arch-Miltant, Astropath Transcendent, Explorator, Missionary, Navigator, Seneschal, and Void- Master. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Rogue Trader is the best of those 5 because it's the least restrictive. You can pretty much do whatever you want in that game. Traditional Rogue Trader stuff where you see about establishing new lines of trade or exploring uncharted space for the AdMech? Sure. Be a mercenary with a ship decked out for combat and a hold full of troops itching to get to the fight? Oh yeah. Arms dealer, supplying weapons and materiel to a planet or faction that's already in a war? Nothing brings in the profit factor like war. (Or start one where tensions are high and sell to both sides!) On the darker side, slavery or the 'cold trade' of Xenos artifacts? Feth yes! Just don't let the =][= find out. Treasure hunting for the mythic and legendary in the Expanse? Many have tried and failed, but they aren't you. Righteous crusader, helping the Imperial Navy take the fight to the Chaos or Xenos fleets in glorious void combat? Mmmm, love me some ship-to-ship action. Work clandestinely with an Inquisitor and his team as transport and/or muscle? It pays to have friends in high places, as long as you keep your nose clean... You're really limited only by your imagination. Also, the Seneschal is, hands down, the most awesome character class in not only Rogue Trader, but the entire series of books from FFG. That guy can do just about anything with his skill set. A little more on topic, I'd really like to see an IG/Tempestus army converted up to resemble modern special forces but still keep some of the sci-fi grimdarkness of 40k. Dragonkin Arenis
I've seen a Tau Trade Federation army from Star Wars before, that was awesome. The 20 Legions Pre-Great Crusade in their original livery on the tabletop would be a sight to behold The. Emperor. Of. Mankind. 'nuff said, methinks.
