Kilofix
So WD #28 - 09 Aug 2014 - Battle Report has: Fireblade Fire Warrior Squad Stealth Team 2 x Riptides Broadside Avatar of Khaine 2 x Jetbike Squads WraithlordWraithknight vs. Logan Rune Priest 10 Blood Claws 15 Grey Hunters Stormwolf Drop Pod 3 Thunderwolves Stormfang Mission is Deadlock Maelstorm of War. Game ends in a draw. Pretty even match? Not surprising for Maelstorm of War? Or totally lucky for Wolves? My thoughts are: 1. Maelstorm missions are sometimes more about luck 2. New flying Wolf units are pretty good 3. Also lucky that Taudar didn't equip a dedicated Skyfire unit - and doubly lucky that the hovering Stormwolf didn't get blown up - though Ceramite definately helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295378-comments-on-wd-28-09-aug-2014-battle-report/ Share on other sites
Kasper_Hawser
Seemed pretty balance the way I read it, though Logan was rather unlucky in saves and attacks, failing to down the Avatar despite having additional 4 S5 attacks. Oh well, was a close game, which is the best kind. Ming
I'd have to say that maelstrom missions are not about luck, but they do require a change in mind set and your real tactics and strategy. It is key to understand that not only do you need to score your own points, you also need to keep the opponent from scoring their points. For example, there are warlord strategems and psychic powers that allow you benefits in maelstrom missions, impacting your ability to draw/discard tactical objective cards, and even impact your opponent's ability to do so. Knowledge of the flow of the cards each turn is very important. For example, some missions are front - loaded with cards for scoring, while others are back loaded. How you play the game impacts the scoring. Missions that are back loaded favor the resilient/mobile list builder, so long as you degrade/eliminate your opponent's ability to do the same. Sure, you can still win by tabling your opponent, but if you are in a multi-game event that accumulates your points, scoring more points can become your overall strategy. And as a reminder, only half of the cards are directly related to the numbered objectives; the other half are more related to eliminating your opponent's units or staying mobile into their deployment zone, or guarding your own, etc. The game becomes more fluid, and thinking on your feet becomes very important. Kasper_Hawser
Mainly I feel that Logan shouldn't have lost against the Avatar, but that is the luck of the rolls. With the Chariots 3 Hull points, he effectively has 7 wounds depending on how he allocates them. Oh well, at least it was a close game, the stormwolves looked like they did well.
