DanPesci
you need to way up your options: 3 predator exterminators has only 9 wounds (3 wounds if they roll well on penetrating hits) but ignores anything below strength 7 on its front facing. 18 long fangs with TDAWG+SS in each has 18 wounds (double) but is susceptible to any weapon strength. the tanks need a iron priest to heal the men need a wolf priest to heal a wolf priest benefits both in firing. so really a 3 tank heavy choice needs an iron priest mandatory and should be considered a tax when compared to the long fangs. in most cases it depends who you verse. and tau are the best snooty force in the game so are bad examples. really you need to try each type 3 times to see how they go..... vs tau vs nids vs marines (standard) or chaos that will show you how they perform. very true, for me i just plain like tanks though :) so recent game i took plasma long fangs, and an executioner. Was a great combo. You also have to weigh in the the pred can move 6" and still fire 3 plasma shots...whereas the long fangs cant. This means an executioner can move up with the rest of your army, applying pressure to an opponent who, if he outranges your 36" fangs, would otherwise just sit at the back of the board. ok playing 1850 sunday vs white scars... (regular opponent of mine) will give the long fangs one more outing! However this time I will try the upgraded WG in termie armor and take his free storm shield yes sir! (watch this space cause if this fails... ull see a link to ebay for my long fangs!) Id say the TDA upgrade is a great idea. I took one last game, but the long fangs took no fire at all, so cant say how effective he is (but 2+ with a free 3++ should be good for tanking as long as the dice gods are with you) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295384-long-fangs/page/4/#findComment-3791925 Share on other sites
littlbitz
I was never a huge fan of LFs, but loved my heavy bolter pack, I think it will still see regular use. It won't attract much attention and has decent range. For ranged busting I like my good ole Predator Annihilator. Las all around. I love the old fluff from a WD that mentions Long Fangs were the ones who came up with the idea... Haakon_Stormbrow
just remember to keep him at the front, and sometimes a consideration is that if the opponent has lots of ap3 weaponry or better, that if your wolf guard fails the save, make a look out sir roll and kill of a plasma cannon, so that your 2+/3++ can be used in future rounds of shooting. You make Look Out, Sir! rolls after the wound allocated, before the saving roll is made. Urauloth
tau are the best snooty force in the game I think that's Eldar, Jokes aside, I don't have a long fang pack yet, but I've been planning one for a long time. I've always liked the unit for how iconic they are, and as I was planning the usual devastator/pack kitbash, the fact that it comes pre-packaged in a box now makes it almost irresistable. I'd love to build and paint a couple of packs, honestly, but I'm wavering on their likely effectiveness. I already have a vindicator, and I could buy a predator to back it up (or a second vindicator) and go the ironwolf route for heavy support and also use drop pod/deep strike/jump pack melta to kill enemy armour up close. Since I'm not in the position of already having the LF miniatures to find a niche for under the 7E codex, maybe I should pass on them? I really hate the idea of missing out on fangs, though, because I've liked them for so long. Give me an excuse to make some sweet long fang minis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295384-long-fangs/page/4/#findComment-3793872 Share on other sites
