Stern and Allied Hammernators

With guaranteed access to Sanctuary (so you can battle plan around it), Stern has a real purpose now, even if you are not fighting Daemons and so don't need his Zone of Banishment ability.

 

Imagine Stern attached to an allied squad of Hammernators (or Deathwing Knights, or Wolf Guard with TH/SS).. since he comes with Sanctuary and Hammerhand "stock," he can make the Stormshields into 2++ saves for the whole unit and also add +2S to the units attacks (i.e. S10 AP2 Thunderhammers for most or S8 AP4 Mauls striking at Initiative for DW Knights).

 

Even against the feared Centurions with Grav Cannon/Amp combo, they are only inflicting an unsaved wound on this unit about 11% percent of the time... (2/3 to Hit)*(35/36 to Wound)*(1/6 to fail an Invul save)=1/9 or or about 11% successful unsaved wound ratio from Centurion shooting (gets even better if you can get FNP, say from Blood Angel Sanguinary Priests or DA Banner or Psyker with Endurance power from Biomancy).

 

Throw Draigo into the mix to absorb hits with his multiple wounds and EW (and 2++, thanks to Stern), plus Draigo gives the unit the one thing it lacks, mobility, via his guaranteed Gates of Infinity... can't charge first turn, but can "Gate" pretty much anywhere in the board (especially with Teleporter/Homing Beacon/Servo Skull help) and be set up for a near guaranteed Turn 2 charge.
