harald death wolf or second lord

So I'm toying with the idea of running harald with 4 thunderwolves and a Wolf Lord on thunderwolf with fang sword and runic armour and ss.

What I was thinking is using two wolf lords instead of Harald as I'm not too fussed about outflank, so what other things does he bring!

Harald is a bit cheaper than a Wolf Lord with the same loadout, but he only comes with a 3+ armour save. He is nice if you want to tank flamer overwatch. Basically, give it a try, as long as you have another wolf lord to tank the wounds.

I like Harald. You're losing out on guaranteed furious charge without him. He also has a lot of flexibility in assault due to keeping his pistol, so he can attack at I5 with regular rending attacks.

If you create him a Battle Leader with all that gear, its 140 points instead of over 200. You save 65 points and lose a wound, an attack, and WS5 instead of 6.

You could even build the battle leader out of Champions of Fenris and not even lose the WS. You can't take Fangsword, but the Krakenbone sword is just as good with AP2.

Wait you can choose to hit at initiative using his bolt Pistol?

Does he automagically give you Furious Charge?

I haveno looked at the supplement yet as I'm still trying to repair my wallet from the initial releases!

Yes. A pistol is a close combat weapon that he can choose to attack with. There's no restriction to what kind of attack gets thunder wolf rending anymore, so he can attack with that instead of his unwieldy frost axe.

He does automatically give you furious charge. He has Saga of the Wolfkin, and grants Furious Charge to nearby beasts and cavalry.

Wow I didn't know about the Pistol I've usually taken ss and power fist on my lord so only had one attack mode! Cheers for that!

I did notice his warlord trait as well I missed it first time round. That's pretty cool!

Well I'll keep him in the list and give him a game out tomorrow against chaos. See how well he fairs!

Just remember that's only if you make him warlord; if you make the other Lord warlord....... then 1 in 6 maybe?
