HATE: verb To dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest.ORIGINS Created in the 34th millennium and part of the 7th founding and named as The Exemplars, their first foray as a chapter was to cleanse the world of Katharsis from the giant reptilian bear-like creatures that had grown to dominate the planet. Having made sure there were no more of these creatures The Exemplars were given stewardship of the planet and they started to replenish their numbers from the nearby planets and systems. They converted the entire planet into a training ground with as many different environments as was possible, even going as far as to have Mechanicum build a huge city that would never be populated much to the irritation of the Chief Fabricator. They fought were they were ordered, they gave their geneseed tithe when it was needed and nothing catastrophic happened to the chapter for nearly 800 years. Then, in the closing years of the 34th, they got caught up in the Pale Wasting, along with 10 other chapters, and removed from the Imperium by an unknown xenos aggressor. When they returned to the Imperium, some 200 years later, they wore different colours, answered to a different name and obeyed different masters.HOMEWORLD Formally the planet of Katharsis was a verdant paradise located in the Segmentum Obscurus, near the area known as the Ghoul Stars. http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx274/lucianvanguard/Exemplars%20of%20Hate/KATHARSIS_zps270e1302.jpgPLANET KATHARSIS, circa M33 With no human or native population Katharsis was classified as a Pre-historic Jungle planet. The planet had 2 super-continents, frozen ice caps and huge oceans teeming with life. Scholars are said to have compared it to ancient Terra in a time from before the Emperor The dominant life form on the planet was a creature called Saxum Lacertus by scholars and Stone Lizards by the Astartes that settled on the planet. The Stone Lizards were a belligerent, heavily armoured reptile that grew to about twice the size of a dreadnought. Usually travelling around in packs of 3-5, initial attempts to drive them off were met with a stampeding wall of muscle and horns, bolt shells bouncing harmlessly of the thick carapace. http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx274/lucianvanguard/Exemplars%20of%20Hate/lizardbear_zps86c1f713.jpg UNKNOWN ARTISTS REDITION OF A MATURE STONE LIZARD. M34.197 The Astartes soon discovered that the beasts had to be killed outright with heavy weaponry because merely wounding themwould cause a rage that would leave several marines dead before the beast could be bought down. Exterminatus was forbidden by the chapter master as he wanted the rest of the world intact for training purposes and so the beast were hunted down using conventional means. Following the disappearance of the chapter, their home world returned to its original state over the course of 50 yearsand when the chapter returned they did so with a different objective in mind. Using various pieces of Xeno tech combined with the insane ideas of the Chief Librarian, the whole psychic corps of thechapter used their combined power to drag the planet into the warp and turn it into a daemon planet. They were successful, but at the cost of all but the strongest psykers as the youngest were driven mad, instantly possessed or just exploded.http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx274/lucianvanguard/Exemplars%20of%20Hate/KATHARSISNOW_zps87c79397.jpgKATHARSIS IS NOW A DAEMON WORLD FOLLOWING THE PUNCTURING OF REALITY. COMBAT DOCTRINE & ORGANISATION There are 5 factions within the former chapter. 1 for each of the gods and a final undivided faction. The factions strive to live up to the “exemplar” part of their name with the battle brothers throwing themselves into the chosen tactics of their god. In the 6000 years since their turning the masters of the chapter still try to keep a level of organisation so that they don’t devolve into mindless beasts with every marine out for himself, subsequently in-fighting between factions is forbidden under the pain of death for the instigators. Brotherhood of the Axe: Devoted to the Blood God, these Berzerkers are mostly drawn from the assault squads although any brother is welcome to join them. Preferring to tear the enemy to pieces with chainblades and pistols. As the name would suggest, squad leaders and officers all carry power axes. Brotherhood of the Scythe: These dark hooded followers of Nurgle are the hardiest and most stoic of the chapter. Mostly used for holding important locations and destroying the enemy with massed volleys of bolt fire. As with those devoted to Khorne, the officers that follow Nurgle all carry power scythes. Brotherhood of the Scream: These multi coloured warriors follow Slaanesh and have become noise marines to a man. Membership into this brotherhood is only granted once the initiate has constructed his own sonic blaster. The leaders do not carry a specific weapon of office; however the Doom Siren is a popular choice. Brotherhood of the Eye: The smallest of the brotherhoods but by no means the weakest, this faction is entirely made up of Sorcerers of Tzeentch and their acolytes. As with Imperial psykers, a force weapon serves as a badge of office. Brotherhood of the Dark Star: The largest of the brotherhoods and made up of those that would rather give their worship to the pantheon as a whole. This is where you’ll find the closest thing to a tactical squad as well as many of the specialist officers and the current Grand Master.http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx274/lucianvanguard/Exemplars%20of%20Hate/EXEMPLAR_zps84a119d8.jpg CHAPTER COLOUR SCHEME, PRE-HERESYhttp://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx274/lucianvanguard/Exemplars%20of%20Hate/exemplarsofhate_zps654bd49a.jpg CHAPTER COLOUR SCHEME, POST-HERESY Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295573-ia-exemplars-of-hate/ Share on other sites
Olis
Good to see you've put in the time to include pictures, brother. Now then, might I ask how the original Exemplars kept their numbers up? How did they recruit when their homeworld was an unpopulated training ground? It is also noted that the eleven chapters that succumbed to the Pale wasted were 'destroyed'. It would help if you bridged the gap between the Imperium believing them to be destroyed and what happened so as to make the galaxy think they were destroyed.
