Hi All,

This will be a long post, detailing a fierce battle fought between The Black Wolf Great Company, led by Wolf Lord Mjod Vidyr, against the forces of Chaos. This is my first game with new codex, so please point out any list building mistakes, its been so much to take in (Just be nice about it J)

T’was but 2 nights previous, when 2500 points of Black Wolves were deployed to the Pleasure World of Solace Encarmine to push back an incursion of Chaos Space Marines.

Due to the urgency of the situation and the size of the rumoured Chaos army, the Wolves requested last minute support from their Dark Angels brothers, who agreed to put past differences aside (albeit temporarily), in order to purge an Imperial world of invading heresy.

The forces were:

Space Wolves

Wolf Lord Mjod Vidyr on thunderwolf, Black Death, Armour of Russ, Helm of Durfast, Storm Shield

3 TWC – TH/SS

Rune Priest – Lvl 2, Hood, Runic Armour

Murderfang

14 Blood Claws in Storm Wolf, 2x Plasma Gun, 1xPfist, Pack Leader – TH/SS

(Storm Wolf has Skyhammer)

10 Grey Hunters w/ Pack Leader(StormBolter/FrostSword), 2xplasma gun, 1xpfist,

Vindicator

Dark Angels

Librarian, Hood, Power Armour, Lvl 2

Deathwing Knights in Landraider Redeemer, Multimelta

10x Tacticals, Plasma Gun and Plasma Cannon

3 Ravenwing Bikes, Plasma Gun

Deployment

As the Wolves were going second, (assuming a failed steal), almost everything was deployed in cover/out of range of heavy weapons. The Chaos Army included a Forgefiend, Hellbrute, Landraider, Havocs and 2 Obliterators.

Turn 1

Chaos turn 1 was uneventful, just movement and some failed shooting. A flying demon prince of nurgle came right up to my deployment zone, as did a group of Raptors.

Turn 1 for wolves was a little better.

LandRaider Redeemer missed enemy landraider with Multimelta, but a flamestorm on the side took out 4 raptors, who passed their morale test.

Vindicator scattered a little but took HPs off of the Land Raider and A rhino filled with plague marines (I think)

Ravenwing bikes moved up and whiffed their shooting, (I find them pretty useless, but they are a decent distraction unit)

Murderfang moved and ran. Trying to close the distance.

Plasma cannon from DA Tacs hit the Hellbrute but it made a demon save.

Lord with TWC moved and ran

Turn 2

After more failed shooting from the Chaos army, the Demon Prince and the Raptors charged the Lord/TWC and a group of Nurgle bikers charged and destroyed the ravenwing.

The Raptor champion challenged Lord Mjod whi dispatched his foe with ease, 4 wounds spilling into the main combat leaving just 1 Raptor standing, who subsequently ran like the Warp Infested coward he was.

Despite the ridiculous number of attacks the Daemon prince gets with the black mace, only one TWC took a wound. They struck back at initiative 1 and caused 2 wounds to the Prince.

Wolves turn 2 saw Deathwing Knights disembark from their Landraider, then charge the rear armour of the Chaos Landraider, making it explode, and losing their knight master to the explosion.

The Vindicator destroyed the Rhino and the plague marines spilled out with their Lord in tow.

The Storm Wolf came on from reserves, and destroyed the forgefiend with lascannons.

Murderfang and the Greyhunters with rune priest charged the nurgle bikes, the biker lord challenged and the rune priest accepted (seeing as he was benefitting from Iron arm) The challenge didn’t end but the Biker Lord went down to one wound.

While the rune priest made his 6++. The rest of the bikes were destroyed by murderfang (what a beast).

Here we had a rules disagreement, my opponent claimed my grey hunters couldn’t attack the biker lord as he was iun a challenge, even though they had nothing left to attack in the combat. We weren’t sure so we rolled a 4+ to decide and avoid an argument, and for the rest of the game we played as if the models in a combat cannot interfere in a challenge until it is complete. I have since found out this was wrong.

Turn 3

Chaos Turn 3 - A unit of possessed ones, who had been in the destroyed landraider charged my DA tactical squad and their librarian. This fight was still unfinished at the end of the game, with 1 possessed and 1 tac and the librarian left.

The daemon prince destroyed Wolf Lord Vidyr getting 11 attacks from his Daemon Weapon. But the TWC finished off the Daemon. Rune Priest destroyed the Biker Lord in the challenge.

Wolves Turn 3 - The Deathwing knights charged and killed an obliterator

The TWC Charged the Plague Marines, and took serious wounds. They really whiffed their invulns and also their to hit rolls.

The BloodClaws charged from the Storm wolf and destroyed the havocs, while the StormWolf finished off the second obliterator.

Chaos turn 4 – Cultists charged the bloodclaws, and all were slain, the bloodclaws so far had only lost 1 model

The TWC lost their Pack Leader in a challenge, but inflicted some wounds and the combat with the Plague Marines continued.

The Hellbrute charged the Deathwing knights, who can only glance him on 6’s, they finally took him down in turn 5.

Turn 5

All the Chaos forces were locked in combat, so all we did was resolve the assault phase.

The bloodclaws joined the combat with the plague marines and all the marines and the lord were destroyed.

The game ended on turn 5 and all my opponent had left on the table was the lone possessed fighting the DA tac squad.

The Forces of the imperium had won by not only tabling the Chaos scum, but also with 11 tactical victory points to 7.

Total Allied losses were:

3 ravenwing bikes

9 DA Tactical Marines

4 Blood Claws

2 Deathwing Knights

Wolf Lord - this was hard to swallow.

1 TWC

A glorious victory for the Sons of Russ. (Who also give thanks to their Deathwing allies)

Sorry if this has been too long and uninteresting, I haven’t before posted a report on one of my battles, but I was pretty proud of this one.

Awesome combo between sons of the Lion and the folk of Fenris. But if I may ask, what is the enemy list? Which was the warlord? By my reading, seems to be the following:

HQ

Chaos Lord on bike (gear? I'm guessing Mark of Nurgle since there were plague marines)

Chaos Nurgle Lord on foot (gear?)

Daemon Prince of Nurgle

Elites

Possessed CSM in Land Raider

Hellbrute

Troops

Cultists

Plague Marines in Rhino

Fast Attack

Raptors (gear?)

Heavy Support

Land Raider

Forgefiend

Havocs

Obliterators?!?!?

Not too familiar with CSM book, but does Possessed able to take Land Raider as dedicated transport? If not, then the guy has 4 Heavy Support. Unless he is playing double detachment. Make sense as he has 3 HQs as well.

In any case, well done.

This was my first battle vs Chaos, this guys is new to our gaming group

Heres what I know, the Chaos lord on foot was the Warlord.

The Daemon prince had Black Mace which kept getting stupid amounts of attacks from its Daemon Weapon rule.

I know nothing about the raptors. I killed 4 with Flamestorm, then when they challenged the Lord, his Armour of Russ meant he was striking at the same initiative, so they did no damage for me to take notice of.

He did specify he was unbound. So I guess he could have had 4 Heavy Supports.

Whats the ?!?!?!?! about Oblilterators? Just because they are a 4th Heavy?, or something else?

Sorry, the question mark was that I realised that he had 4 Heavy Supports, which unless is unbound, is illegal. As far as I know, Chaos don't have much manipulation of force organisation chart, unless it is Abaddon or respecitve chaos god lords unlocking their respective elites as troops (Khorne berserkers, Noise Marines, Plague marines and Rubric marines)

The daemon prince on the other hand, might not be a HQ, but a heavy support as well. In any case, he still has more than 3 Heavy Supports. Oh well, you still trumped him.

Was most of his army using Mark of Nurgle as well? I think almost all chaos infantry and HQs can take the mark, so the obliterators could be Toughness 5 instead of normal 4.

Only Princes form the Daemon Codex can be heavy support (requires a Greater Daemon of the same alignment). C:CSM Princes are HQ only.
