Beor
Hello battle brothers! As I just recently got back to the hobby I've been looking for a good way of carrying my templar force. Before my hiatus I always had a bit of a problem ferrying my crusade around, especially my land raider (which any zealous crusader with some self-respect should field). And yesterday I picked up a new carry case for my crusade that will solve this problem, a KR Card case. A really neat thing about this case is the custom cut trays enabling me to fit a LRC, predator, 2 rhinos, 2 dreadnoughts, 18 sword brethren in TDA and 50 man strong mix of initates and nophytes. All in one case The contents of the KR card case: The quality is rather bad but I only had phone at hand. I've use one of the rhino slots for my land speeder using pieces of the cut outs. http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p520/bearswede/Warhammer%2040K/2014-08-22114055_zps087c575c.jpg Before this is used the hard plastic case from GW that i bought some 7 years ago and it's been hard to fit everything in there (even after cutting up the trays as advised by the GW staff ). When I ordered the KR case I also picked up some new foam trays from KR to refurbish my old GW case and make room for upcoming expansions. I got one troop tray for 50 troops (instead of GWs 36 per tray) and a 70 mm pick&pluck tray. After some measuring i figured the new foam could accommodate one LRC, 2 dreads, 2 rhinos/razorback and vindicator/predator or a mix of vehicles of similar size. Pics of the new trays for the GW case: So far I've only made room for 3 bikes that I couldn't fit in the KR case and some objective markers. http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p520/bearswede/Warhammer%2040K/2014-08-22114412_zps177b7678.jpg As you can see, I've used the cutouts from the KR case to gauge how much could fit in the large tray. http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p520/bearswede/Warhammer%2040K/2014-08-22114508_zps7f19a63c.jpg I'm very happy with my purchase as I now actually have something to carry my LRC in and won't have to worry about carrying space 'till I hit the 2500 points mark. So what do use for carrying/storing your force? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295630-carrying-templars-and-parking-land-raiders/ Share on other sites
tvih
So far I just carry them around in boxes or a hardcover suitcase of sorts. I've been looking at cases for a long time, but never settled on anything. I suppose for infantry it's easy, but vehicles are a pain because there are so many different vehicle setups you can take, especially when you play several armies. But now that I'm soon going to be actively looking for gaming opponents, I suppose I really better get a case for the infantry at least. Marshal Mattias
My troops are transported in the wooden boxes of only the finest hand-rolled Cuban Cigars. Their nickname is 'The Filthy Hooligans,' so named after a particular box of Alex Bradley cigars that holds my main HQ/Infantry. Marshal_Roujakis
IMO, carrying troops is easy, carrying vehicles becomes a challenge and carrying flyers (especially if you noob-ishly glued it to the base :p) becomes a pain... makes me think how Eldar and Dark Eldar players lug their little horned flyers around without breaking a spine... Marshal Mattias
I have followed your lead and looked into the KR stuff. If you go with the card, it's not too expensive. I can't seem to find a double-landraider sized tray though... Just us Templars who like to carry multiples around, I suppose ;) I tried using their auto-full thing, but it didn't work too well. Basically tried to tell me I needed 4 cases?! Â How hard was it to cut the foam to fit when using the blank blocks? Firepower
I have 2 KR cases, and I have issues with it. Â Firstly, the foam tray advertised as being sized for Terminators does not in fact fit them at all. Â Regardless of how arms may reach outside the foam slot, the slot isn't even wide enough to properly accommodate the width of the base. Â My Bikes have broken off gubs several times because the bike foam tray is so unforgivingly snug. Â Â I find it too narrow in general, really. Â Any dynamically posed models or vehicles with decorative gubs are going to have a hard time fitting, and I've had to painstakingly cut the foam with a knife to make room for things like Characters or my Bikes' lances. Â I'm not sure what alternative to use. Â Pluck foam trays seem better suited to models like mine, but I'm not familiar with them, and don't know what brand would suit my models and needs best (for a good price). Â Battlefoam makes crazy good trays from what I hear, but their prices are pretty extreme, and I don't necessarily need a hard shelled aluminum suitcase to feel my models are safely protected. minigun762
How difficult would it be to go to a home improvement or craft store, buy the foam and cut it yourself? tvih
I've mostly been looking at Feldherr. I probably would've made an order at one point or another, but the tray configs I ended up with were always like 1-2cm too thick to fit the case :P But as said I need one for infantry sooner or later, might just convert my hardcover suitcase to a vehicle carrier with some sort of foam paddings and segmentation of my own making. The Stormraven might be a lost cause as far as carrying it goes, as in an moment of exasperation I glued the wings in place instead of magnetizing them This coming from someone who usually doesn't glue anything unless it basically can't be avoided. Like the only things glued on my Initiates are the torso halves, and the magnets. hart3856
Battlefoam tried and tested my brothers. Yes it is expensive, yes you most likely will never need that level of protection....BUT I am that retarded guy who slipped walking down stairs at a local con, my battlefoam bag slipped off my shoulder and continued end over end for twenty feet (6.5 meters-ish) and went thud at the bottom. Every other 40k walking with me gasped is horror. Â I raced down thinking OH please no not me!!! Ran down, open the case and not one model was broken, not one model moved!!! Every 40k player there that day who saw it first hand went out and immediately dumped their transportation idea and bought Battlefoam. I have been a confirmed user ever since, so much so, every army I have, all four, have there own battlefoam system to move them to and from. Â I have never feared or worried a day since. I have been in two car accidents with my 40k army flying from the rear cargo area into the back seat, had them tossed around by airline bagge crews and every time my army comes out safe and sound to fight another battle :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295630-carrying-templars-and-parking-land-raiders/#findComment-3786755 Share on other sites

As for the auto-fill, I didn't used it. I downloaded their pdf-sheet of all space marine trays and did the math myself after trying the auto-fill. How difficult would it be to go to a home improvement or craft store, buy the foam and cut it yourself? I think it would be hard to get nice clean cuts using a knife. But I guess that would depend on the tools used and the density of the foam. Also they don't make a double land raider tray, as the land raider takes up roughly 2/3 of a tray. So you would need a case with two trays. T14
I use an alu rifle case. Not popular with airport security, but they usually crack a smile once I open the case to reveal the zeal. Acebaur
How difficult would it be to go to a home improvement or craft store, buy the foam and cut it yourself?  More trouble than it would be worth than the $10ish on standard pluck foam.  I used to use exclusively pluck foam but it can be  giant pain to make space for models that could really fit in standardized slots.  So I'm trying out some battlefoam and am so far impressed. I think they are great for buying trays for basic troops and vehicles and then also really weird stuff like my Storm Eagle. However, delicate or complicated items like Firepower's bikes should use pluck foam for ease of operation.  For a bag I use the Sabol Army Transport system. Personally I prefer the Motor Pool bags to any others and they are huge value for the price. $30 gets you an empty bag with top quality. T14
At least I was not that guy on my last trip insisting that his 5 ft. ready-to-go petrol chainsaw was legitemate carry-on luggage That guy gave airport security cold sweats, let me tell ya!In all seriousness. A rifle case will hold 5k armies in a single layer of egg-crate foam without breaking a sweat. Think outside the STC bawks. Zeruvar
How much would a rifle case set me back? :) this sounds like a good one. Im getting tired of lugging 2 boxes with my army in them. Â Edit: Â Quick google and it seems this is a lot cheaper than going full battlefoam. Tekman
I just use battlefoam cases, big durable (airplane legit in 9/10 cases) and can house up to 5k points if distributed properly in the largest one allowed on board (as carry on). I would definitely get battlefoam in a heartbeat if i had the cash reserves. As it is my budget for hobbying does not prioritize storage. Still trying to figure out a waynto make these storage bins from lowes work with my army. That and actually deciding in hie big a bag I need is daunting exercise for me. I feel if i get one for a small army, Id want to get my whole collection in it. Ahhh....
