The Rose Princes
So tried out my all Mounted Marines list with the new Champions of Fenris Force Organization Chart with my constant companion and her Slaanesh/Tzeentch daemon mix. 13TH COMPANY MOUNTED WULFEN DIVISION Harald Deathwolf with 2 wolvesBattle Leader: Krakenbone Sword, Storm Shield, TWM Iron Priest: Melta Bombs, TWM, 3 Cyberwolves Iron Priest: Melta Bombs, TWM, 3 Cyberwolves Iron Priest: Melta Bombs, TWM, 3 Cyberwolves 3 Thunderwolf Cavalry: Melta Bombs, Power Maul, Storm Shield 3 Thunderwolf Cavalry: Melta Bombs, Power Maul, Storm Shield 3 Thunderwolf Cavalry: Melta Bombs, Power Maul, Storm Shield (i only build all comers lists, which is why there are so many melta bombs vs Daemons) DAEMONS OF CHAOS Keeper of Secrets Doppleganger 20 Pink Horrors 20 Pink Horrors 10 Daemonettes 10 Daemonettes 10 Daemonettes 1 Chariot 5 Fiends?? (3 wound cavalry slaanesh things) 3 (Tzeentch jetbike things) Emperor's Will / Hammer and Anvil I set up right on the line. 1 unit of TWC with the Battle Leader (his name is Gisela Owensdottier) on the right edge, a unit of TWC 6" left of them, the last TWC on the left edge, all 3 Iron Priests as one unit in the middle with all 9 Cyberwolves in the front. She puts both squads of Horrors in each of the back table corners, one is behind a length of impassable fencing, Chariot forward between them, Jetbikes, Keeper and Doppleganger across the center of her deployment zone playing safety, everyone else on the front edge of the deployment zone: Fiends in front of Owendottier's unit, Damonettes in front of the other units. TOP OF THE 1ST: I run forward 12 inches, the unattached TWC unit runs into a ruins and does not fail dangerous terrain rolls, everyone runs 6" except for the Iron Priests who run 4". Harald's unit is positioned into a line of trees. BOTTOM OF THE 1ST: The front line moves into position to prepare an assault, Chariot runs up the field, the jetbikes move to assist the ones on the Priests, Keeper moves to back up the ones heading to the ruins, Doppleganger kind of just moves no where particular. Rolled only 1 Warp Charge; Horrors just summon another unit of jetbikes; all other magic attempts fail. Weather forecast for the storm is clear. All 4 front line units charge. Owendottier's unit takes a single would while killing 2 Fiends outright then Instability killing 2 more. TWC in the ruins goes kills 5 Daemonettes and takes no wounds in return, 2 more lost due to Instability. Harald's unit kills all the Demonettes after Instability loss without taking a wound. The Iron Priests unit is arranged in such a mess that in the bottleneck between the ruins and trees that i was trying to run the unit down so as not to take dangerous terrain rolls that only the Cyberwolves can swing; i cannot get a Priest in 2" of my own engaged models. I lose the combat but within 12" of Harald so pass morale. TOP OF THE 2ND: Hey, that Chariot is kind of close.... but that jetbike unit is kind of close too. Go big or go home. I separate Harald from the TWC and head towards the Chariot while the unit goes to the jetbikes. I lob a grenade at the Chariot, nothing. I lob a grenade at the jetbikes, do a wound. Harald charges the chariot and pulps the driver with the Frost Ax, but the TWC roll half 1's to wound and the Jetbikes save everything, but do nothing in return. Owendottier's unit finishes off the last Fiend. the unit in the ruins finishes off all but 1 Daemonette, but then rolls double 1's in Instability and all 3 are back again. Iron Priests finally pile in around the unit and moosh all but 2 Daemonettes. BOTTOM OF THE 2ND: Jetbikes and Doppleganger move to assist engaged Jetbike unit, Keeper heads to help the only surviving Daemonettes. Harald's waaaaaaaaay in the backfield now all alone (except for his wolves Kumar and NPH) so the Horrors walk up on him. Rolls 1 Warp Charge again, tries to summon another unit of Fiends but they scatter BEHIND THE IMPASSABLE FENCE. All other magic attempts fail. Weather forecast for the storm is Hates All Nurgle & Unengaged Enemy Models; no damage to anyone. Jetbikes and Doppleganger charge the engaged TWC unit, 20 Horrors charge Harald, Keeper charges TWC in the ruins. Doppleganger impersonates the stat line of the TWC Pack Leader as he gets challenged, and as you would expect with a Doppleganger duel, it's a draw; the rest of the unit do nothing back to the now 6 Jetbikes and takes a wound in return, but makes it's Stubborn morale check. Keeper has no frag grenades either, so goes last; TWC hits the Daemonettes... again... and kills them all, not taking any wounds. Keeper kills a TWC, but i still win combat.... but another double 1's brings those damn 3 Daemonettes back onto the table! Horrors swarm Harald and he kills 5, the lose a few more to Instability, but in the process Kumar and NPH fall. Priest finally kill the last of their Daeonettes and are free to move about. TOP OF THE 3RD: 1 Priest and his 3 wolves move out of the unit of Priests and runs to assist Harald, the other two with 2 wolves remaining total move to get in the combat with the Jetbikes. Owensdottier spits from the TWC to try to get the continually regenerating 3 Daemonettes on his own, while the unit moves to assault the Keeper of Secrets. Owensdottier easily removes the 3 Daemonettes from the table.... finally. The Keeper kills the 2 TWC in the ruins, but the new charging 3 kill him right back. The Priest charges into the fray of Horrors with furious charge and uses his Bolt Pistol instead, pulping a good number of models simultaneously with the Cyberwolves and Horrors, Harald does clean up and the rest of the unit vanishes to Instability. The duel with the Doppleganger ended in a 1 wound each draw this time, but the other 2 Priests and Cyberwolves plunge through the Jetbike unit like it was not even there, and the wounds carried over pulping the Doppleganger while the other jet bike unit failed to wound the TWC, vanishing to Instability. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At this point she conceded as all she had left was the Horrors and Fiends behind the fence with a space at the back table edge to get in the field and I had my entire army minus 2 wolves, 4 Cyberwolves and 4 TWC. Her husband gave a mention of pulling a 300/Battle of Thermopylae at the fence entrance, but she saw the writing on the wall: I had First Blood, Slay the Warlord and just being at the gate entrance would give me Linebreaker plus planting someone on my own marker would give me 3 more. Her magic was not running for her... even with 1 Charge she still had like 10 dice, everything came up 2's. Not a great test for the CoF FOC, but I got to stretch my legs with the new rules. My army works a little differently not having all those units of wolves running detraction everywhere anymore (which leaves me no need for Canis and his new rules) so I have to play the list harder and faster. The Iron Priests being Independent Characters now add a whole new versatility factor to the army, so their roll seems to be to plant the unit of a dozen or more models up front and center, let the Cyberwolves take the brunt, then reconfigure where else their use would be best. I look forward to one day fielding all 6 with 24 Cyberwolves! Sure it's 1000 points for 30 models.... but it would be fun!
