A little fluff help?

Hi guys. Still floating around which legions I want to do. Apologies, probably getting annoying now. At the moment, I'm thinking Night Lords, and either Sons of Horus or Word Bearers. I really like the SoH models, they have a very distinctive style to their armour which I really like, and their Contemptor is quite frankly a work of art. But I also love the WB, particularly the Gal Vorbak, and the idea of units such as the Ashen Circle (not so much the poses though).

I think in terms of fluff, the NL and SoH work really well together. But is there any reason (apart from Istvaan) that the WB and NL would work together? If I recall, the NL have very little time for the WB.

I've (pretty much) settled on the Night Lords. But I can't pin down which of the other two I want to do. Every time I look at the SoH models, I want to do them, and every time I look at the WB stuff, I want to do them... And of course there's the possibility that tomorrow I could change my mind completely again cos I'm so damn indecisive. It's so frustrating.

I'm not sure if there is some validation in established lore for what you are looking for.

But you don't need it. Night Lords Company X has existed since the days of Terra, long before Nostramo. This Company has served alongside the Word Bearers Chapter Y in Expedition Fleet Z since its inception, when their brothers were known as the Imperial Heralds. Time goes on, and the Imperial Creed establishes itself in the renamed Word Bearers forces. Close association and bonds of brotherhood provides an opening for the Emperor worship among the Night Lords, bit it is slow. Resisted, at least at first. Then word trickles down. Nostramo burns, and their Primarch has taken much of the Legion behind the Imperial grasp. The Word Bearers grasp the opportunity to spread the changed Word, which catches much easier this time around.

When the Word Bearers are mustered at Isstvan, the Night Lords Company joins them, remaining separate from the rest of the Eighth.

As just one example. Among countless others that you can come up and go with.

Thanks guys. I know that I can make my own fluff, but I was asking if there was any actual instances already, or if anyone could come up with anything better than me I guess ;) which you already have, Cormac, so thank you :)

I guess I was also looking for help with which direction to go in, SoH or WB... But I know that's a personal choice. I think I'm leaning SoH at the moment. But if I did NL/SoH, I'd probably want to do a WB army as well... Seriously need to own those Gal Vorbak.

Ugh.

Uh, I don't know. Heh, I shouldn't give rules advice, I have zero relevant knowledge on that score.

Ally a Word Bearers force, but paint/model them as Sons of Horus/Night Lords, if your local crowd is accepting of this level of counts-as?

I don't have a clue what my local crowd is like, this is in isolation at this stage except for here ;) that's one way around it though. Although, then it kinda marginalises the WB background and colours which I like in their own right...

I'm awkward, I know.

I think I'm gonna do Night Lords with SoH allies, and Word Bearers seperately. And just buy things as and when, it's gonna take me forever anyway so, at least then I won't get bored and will hopefully stick with them. That way I avoid any fluff issues with WB fighting with NL, and I get to have my cake and eat it too.
Given that in M41 there are Night Lord warbands led by Possessed and Daemon Princes, as well as splinter warbands devoted to all four Dark Powers and indeed the Pantheon Undivided, I think it's safe to say that while Sevatar, Sahaal and Talos had a very puritan outlook on things, the Legion as a whole was much more cosmopolitan.

Yeah that's a good point :) I would've wanted to use Sevatar though probably. But I'm gonna do SoH and NL, with the WB separate I think. That's the plan today at least...
