First battle with the new 'dex

Fought a 2500 pt match today against CSM this afternoon. He had the typical amount of inexpensive AP2 (Vindicator, Forgefiend, Plasma guns) and 3 Obliterators, so I was immediately concerned with how his shooting would go for me. I ended up going second, which meant that my deep striking units which came on Turn 1 were able to avoid all of the AP2 shooting and take out some of the bite out of the critical units.

Two Highlights of the game:

1) Love the Salvo 3/6 on the Heavy Psycannon (makes it incredibly useful for shooting vehicles and monstrous creatures), especially when I can used combined arms to kill a Daemon Prince in a single shooting phase.

2) Manifesting Cleansing Flame while embarked on a Stormraven is incredible. My opponent said that he was going to have to really think about how he positioned his army knowing that I was going to be able "nova bomb" him on the turn the Stormraven enters the table. And then disembark on the next turn and continue to manifest the power.

All in all, my army performed as expected. Weight of fire/low AP is able to make short work of terminators, the Dreadknight was a star on the tabletop, Purifiers (if properly sheltered) are awesome.

The overall point reduction (~20% reduction in points for the same list in the last book) meant that I simply had more bodies on the table than he could deal with. He's not looking forward to fighting two dreadknights and more than one unit of purifiers (both of which I'll get from the bundle I pre-ordered).

I do have one question. When do squads count as combat-squadded? If my Purifiers are combat-squadded while in the Stormraven, do I still get 4 Warp Charges? Can I manifest Cleansing Flame twice?

I agree with the major opinions that Strike Squads and Purgation Squads will likely never see the tabletop, but everything else in the book seems pretty viable.

Squads count as Combat Squads from the moment you declare it, so they do provide 4 more Warp Charges to your pool, as soon as the Stormraven enters the table's airspace.  You absolutely can manifest Cleansing Flame twice, but need to have a Fire Point (so, Rhinos), otherwise you have to wait to disembark to Nova Bomb.

Well I red the rule on "nova" specific and it says you can use the power regardless of line of sight or intervening models, so I could see a rules debate attached to it/ FAQ clarification

While there may be a FAQ for it (GW likes to FAQ obvious things sometimes), I don't think there is much of a debate. The rules are pretty clear, you can only manifest witchfires when embarked in a transport, and they must have a fire point.

Scout Squad, 1x Power Weapon, 4x Combat Blade, Teleport Homer, Melta Bombs

Land Speeder Storm, Heavy Bolter

This list is all of the Grey Knights I have, an Inquisitor for the cheap Divination and the skulls, the Librarian for even more Warp Charges (and fishing for Invisibility), and some Scouts with teleport homers to infiltrate close.

I've got 25 more PAGK to paint/put together. At least 5 more Interceptors, 10 more Purifiers. Not sure what I'll do with the last 10. I might just make back-up models with different weapons or make another 10-man Interceptor squad.

I've also got 5 more Terminators, another Dreadknight, and a Land Raider (Lascannon) to build. *Yes, I did buy the new bundle.

I only recently got the Stormraven (I had shelved my GK for most of 6th) and I have to say that I'm impressed with its ability to perform anti tank duties, espcially now that we have the Stormstrike missiles.

You've got it.

Librarian and Brotherhood Champion were in the 'raven as well. It left me a little sparse until my flyer came in, but my second wave was pretty devestating.

I had a couple of lucky rounds of shooting, but the ability to put my units more or less where I want really made up for the lack of mobility that my Terminators usually suffer from.
