New releases

Looking at this week's releases, basically the units in the Warriors of the Fang, I am feeling a little disappointed.

The Sky Claws, horrible. Why did they need to be so damn static. Pretty much every jump pack unit in the game at least looks like they could be moving.

SM Captain is JUST a SM Captain. They didn't even bother to change out his backpack or his Iron Halo for the damn WoF box photo.

Long Fang were long overdue. Nothing really wrong with the box with this one, just very anticlimactic for something we should have had ages ago once they got rid of the metal heavy weapons.

Personally I will be kit bashing Sky Claws and Blood Claws for that matter;

Running legs for both units. Harnessed torsos for SC with wolf themed helms, arms, and weapons. Mix of SW and SM bits for BC torsos, arms, helms, and weapons.

GW just likes to charge us for useless bits I guess.

They're just a Space Wolf sprue packaged with the existing Space Marine Assault Marine/Devastator sprue. You're going to be kit-bashing whatever you do with them.

If they'd used the running legs on the Skyclaws, the only Wolf bits they'd have used would be arms and heads.

Was anyone actually thinking the claws/fangs were going to be anything other than a box with the parts that were already being used to make those units? People were already buying a space wolves kit and an assault/devastator kit to make those units, GW has just cut out the need to buy 2 separate kits by putting a smaller amount of each in a new box and marketed it specifically as the unit in question.

The only thing new about them is that GW didn't jack the prices through the ceiling when they released these kits, $41AU for 5 guys compared to $70AU for a box of 5 sternguard, a welcome change I'd say.

I agree, it was obvious these kits weren't anything new and it is a nice convenient improvement from having to buy two kits.

I'm more disappointed at the LF box comes with only ONE missile launcher.

Well that has always been standard with the Devastator sprues which is why my practice has always been to mix/match a SW pack with a SM Tactical box because it allows me to collect missile launchers.

The Sky Claw kit bash is easy and cheaper. SM Assault packs are $33USD as opposed to the Sky Claw pack being $37USD. You get the running legs and it isn't like you won't have extra bits leftover from all your other stuff to make them Space Wolves.

But GW Isn't selling the kit with the assumption you're going to have left over bits that would make the purchase of a different kit more appropriate, they want you to spend your money as if each purchase is in a vacuum. I had enough marine bits left over from when I made my kit-bashed raptors and havocs that once I started my Wolves I was able to throw a few new bits into the mix and make a full blood claw squad, and I've still got plenty left. GW however would prefer I gave them more money to get more kits, rather than using leftovers.

Sort of. GW's team is... shall we say, not competitive. They really want people to assemble their heavy weapons squads each with four different heavy weapon. A squad with five of the same weapon is so boring after all.

Regarding the Long Fangs box; how many pairs of legs are in it? The devastators box has 6 legs (but 5 torsos), but the Space Wolves kit has 6 torsos. Is the kneeling leg in the kit?
