Shield maidens & Valkeries?

Seen this mentioned before so i was wondering what models to use, regular Sisters of battle? or go wild and get a box like those fantasy Highelves sisters of Averlorn (those do have the typical Nordic braided hair). I would give them the SoBattle backpack, i stil have some unusued ones.

And what are your thoughts on a 2nd unit like these but than riding on Pegasus counting as Thunderwolf Cavalry?

Notes: these are some conversion thoughts, iam not sure if i will be doing them, just asking around. I would also use the SW codex for statts, i dont care if some dont like female Spacemarines, unless they are willing to buy them for me.

Sounds like it could potentially be some pretty cool conversions. I think you will find that it might divide people a bit, those really subscribing to the "grimdark" might find it bit too lighthearted.

But I for one am always happy to see creative conversions, and would be more than happy to play against Valkyries and shieldmaidens!

Couldnt cybernetics make a woman as strong as a marine?

Yes it could, and even the creation of an Astartes could be done on a woman, eg it doesnt say impossible, it said nearly impossible. Like Tau not completely no trace in the warp but instead nearly no trace in the warp.

0,1 is more than 0. :P

This is relevant to my interests.  Let me know what you come up with.  Getting the head to look right is the hardest part.  I've thought about hacking up some darksword minis, or getting female blanks from hasslefree miniatures.  I haven't pulled the trigger on these yet, as my funds and time are little low at the moment.  http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=human-female-heads-%28b%29~hfl101&category=accessories~converting

I've been disappointed that there have been no good 3d-printing options yet, at least to my knowledge.  Post progress pics when you can!  Personally, I just want faces...no boobplate pls.

Thats on of the best parts of my idea, the heads in that kit i proposed for my idea have the ears covered and fitting hair, not much cutting needed. (dare i say its a good look alike from the Vikings shield maiden (forgot her name))

That show is also the part of the reason behind this idea, and Marvels Valkerie ofcourse.

I actually came across this today.  Looks like a great conversion and the Reaper Minis Bones series is not very expensive.  Seem easy to cut and the like.  When I get started on my Valkyrie TWC, I'll definitely post pics.

(Valerian: agreed...trying to keep it hobby-focused).

Lagatha??

great show, and the reason my lone wolf is called tostig :)

Looking forward to seeing your results, had an idea to run some valkries, and use the SoB seraphim rules for them, but never had the time to invest

What a coincidence. I'm actually making my Iron Wolves Company with Shield Maidens & Valkyries using Battle Sisters & Seraphim respectively. The 6++ is explained by combat shields but unfortunately my ebay search for WGT heraldry shields isn't really turning up much (or at all sad.png) so I might need to find alternatives. Nothing against using SWs to represent them, I just always wanted to field Seraphim with SW since the Witch Hunters codex. That & I like the idea of Shield Maidens with actual shields.

The only things is I'm not sold on is the names. Shield Maidens & Valkyries seem out of place among Grey Hunters, Blood Claws & Long Fangs. Probably cause I've heard some much of them in RL context (a friend of mine is VERY proud of his norse heritage.) I was thinking of calling them something along the lines of Red Shields & Void Ravens.

I'm in the process of converting the Sisters of Sigmar to make the models. As for wings, the Ravenwing hussar wings are the basis of my Valkyries.

I look forward to your conversions.

Couldnt cybernetics make a woman as strong as a marine?

Yes but typically human cybernetics grant strength & resilience at the expensive of speed. Most Mechanicum units are initiative 2 or 3. Note its not impossible, just rare/expensive.

I modeled a 5 woman squad of snipers like this, going for the "choosers of the slain" angle.

I like this idea. My list is maxed at 1500 but I might have to add this at 1850 along with some female Thunderwolf riders.

Liking the work so far SF, will be ineresting to see them more painted up.

Id also been looking at wood elf wardancers. The hairstyles they have are fairly 'norse' looking, and the dancing poses would actually work quite well with the jump pack/wings look i think (for the valykries), as they all look in mid jump/leap.

My issue with the wardancers though is that they are very unarmoured (although i suppose fluff wise you could give them good armour due to their speed...but seems a bit off), and the faces are a bit too elfin.

I am late to the party, but you could always cruise ebay and buy official, if expensive and OOP, female space marines...

Not that I am commenting on could/should/would females be space marines ;).

Non of us are, and i just ignore naysayers (i think the moderators dont want such topics of yay and nay either).

I know about that gw model btw (yes GW produced female marines back way back when nature was clean and that kind of stuff), but since ebay sellers charge ridiculous prices (sometimes) the box i used seems less ridiculous.
