IF colour schemes?

Hey chaps,

I've been back and forth constantly over the last week or so, I'm just about to start my second Legion, some friends for my Salamanders. I've got then to 4k+ so feel it's a good time to start another Legion.

I've got it narrowed down to NL, RG and WB, with the front runners being Imperial Fists. The one thing that puts me off about them is the colour scheme.

Could anyone offer me some advice/show me some examples of their schemes?

Yeah there's a (I'm guessing) Pre Dorn IF which is mostly silver with a yellow arm and yellow stripe on his helm, and there's a couple who are mostly black with yellow bits. There was also a thread recently where someone had done their IF in a metallic scheme, like silver washed with yellows to make a metallic yellow/ gold. I'll try find it.

Here it is: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289906-heresy-era-imperial-fists-metallic-colour-scheme/?hl=+metallic%20+imperial%20+fists

I have played with a ton of IF recipes and I finally settled on the forge world recipe as I find it the most consistent between all the ones that I have tried. The pictures just don't do them justice, they have a very deep and vibrant yellow and they are consistent, remaining consistent was my biggest problem.

The Contemptor and the guys to the right as you are looking at it and the command squad are the Forge World recipe:

The recipe is quite involved and takes time but given the price of FW resin crack it helps you take up the time so your wallet can recoup between each purchase here it is:

(Disclaimer - This recipe is only recommended using an airbrush)

Base coat:
Ceramite White

1st Layer:
50/50 Evil Sons Scarlet/Flash Gitz Yellow (watered down to your taste and airbrush)

2nd layer:
25/75 Evil Sons Scarlet/Flash Gitz Yellow

3rd Layer:
100% Flash Gitz Yellow (watered down to your taste and airbrush)

4th Layer:
25/75 Scar White/Flash Gitz Yellow (watered down to your taste and airbrush)

5th Layer:
Wash the entire mini in an equal mix of sepia wash/Agrax Earthshade/Lahmian Medium all watered down

For the black I use Mechanicum Gray with a heavy black wash.

Hope that helps and please trust me when I say you will love it!

I should point out, I don't actually own an airbrush! I'm a stickler for having a brush in my hand.

Yeah I saw that metallic IF scheme and I thought it would look amazing in the Breacher army I have planned. Just not sure I could achieve anything that looks remotely like that. They're astounding, and the scheme that actually inspired me to try Imperial Fists

Verbatim, this is the Forgeworld Recipe. I emailed them a while back about it :

 Undercoat Skull White
Yellow Areas
 Airbrush 50/50 mix Tamiya Flat Red/Yellow
 Airbrush 25/75 mix Tamiya Flat Red/Yellow
 Airbrush Tamiya Flat Yellow
 Airbrush 75/25 mix Tamiya Flat Yellow/Flat White
 Airbrush Tamiya Clear Yellow
 Wash with a mix of Humbrol Clear, Agrax Earthshade and Seraphim Sepia all thinned down
Black Areas
 Abaddon Black
 Highlight – Blend up to Mechanicus Standard Grey
 Final Highlight with Dawnstone

Know that they exclusively use airbrushes, but that doesn't stop you from trying the scheme (and the one Battle8rother poster) with a paintbrush, I know I will.

Yeah I'm well known amongst my friends for my irritation of FW and their absolute adoration of FW schemes. The Sallies scheme they used isn't aimar at all to the one on the FW books...

Anyways, I was thinking of possibly trying a Halfords yellow primer, sepia wash and then layering on Yriel Yellow as a starting point, perhaps

And I've always loved the Fists, but wanted to do an army first to practice my skills on, hence doing Sallies. I feel much more confident tackling the Sons of Dorn now :)
