NDK as Warlord....

Hey all,

I wondered if anyone had given much thought to using the NDK as a Warlord? In my GK list my HQ is a Libby. With 2 wounds he isnt hugely survivable. Especially as he will be in the enemies face with his unit.

So as a Warlord what about the Dreadknight. I have three in my 1850 list and it seems to me that he would benefit more from the Personal Traits than the Libby would in any other Trait.

1. Counterstrike - Thats alright

2. Furious Charge - Useless

3. Outflank - Average but can have its uses. With a teleporter regardless of which side you come in youll be fine

4. +1 VP for each slain Character - NDK slaughters characters

5. Feel No Pain - YES!

6. - Fearless and IWND - YES!!

So given that you get to reroll the dice thers a good chance you'll get something good. Whats the consensus?

Gaz you are a genius! The Warlord rules simply state 'pick a character' now. They don't care if he's a HQ, has the highest Leadership....just has to be a character.

Wow. This is so perfect.

I just read the entry in the rulebook on Warlords. Its possible...

When choosing your army, you must nominate one model to be your Warlord.
Unless specified otherwise, this must be a character model. If you do not have
any character models in your army, then select any other model in your army to be the
Warlord. The model you choose as your Warlord also determines your Primary
Detachment.

'Hey, so my Warlord is my unkillable Chapter Master on a Bike'

'That is so cool. Mine is a T6 4 wound 2+/4+ invul monstrous creature with a jump pack, S10 AP2 melee and two guns. Plus he costs less. And that Gorgon Chain stuff doesn't matter btw'

This is what playing Tau must feel like

Codex:Dreadknight.

As any Tau commander would tell you FNP on a monstrous creature is fantastic - that is the one you really want in most games.

Brilliant idea!!!

Libby with cuirass was my go to option but with 2 wounds and a good chance of perils I never felt too comfortable.

Now the NDK is not only 2+/5++ and 4 W but can't be ID'd with conventional weapons, can get 4++ with his powers or 4+ cover in ruins (jump pack teleporter+being mc) easily.

FNP - has a 1/3 chance to avoid perils and can spam sanctuary more often.

IWND - silly good...feeling the rage already

Now how to run him as warlord? I wouldn't suggest to run him naked as his abilities are very much needed. Depending on the mission (and maelstrom cards drawn) his VP is more or less essential anyway. He WILL attract a lot of fire so he might as well dish out the hurt. As I tend to run full NDK heavy, his two bodyguards should then act very aggressive so my opponent has to decide wether he wants to get that 1-X VPs for my warlord or stop his two army munching brothers..

Btw. rules question - which other MCs can be warlord? I have checked wraithknights and riptides, both are only MC /JP. Wraithlords could be taken as warlord as they have IC status.

The reason you want the greatsword on every DK (Warlord or not) is because it gives you access to a nemesis force weapon. This is important because if you're fighting someone who is T6 or higher, you can't ID them with your base S10. Also, the master-crafted re-roll is very handy. You could also take the hammer I guess, Concussive is designed for prolonged combat though, and generally speaking you should insta-gib most things in a single turn, going longer risks too much. Also, greatsword looks way cooler ;) can't beat that.

I think I've figured out their master plan

'Lets make Libby's absurdly cheap at Mastery 3....but how do we discourage making them the Warlord?'

'Make Dreadknights so powerful they're an auto-include? Oh, and they can be Warlords now'

'But they Deepstrike, so how do we encourage that?'

'Lets make the Terminators cheap, but nerf the hell out of ranged Purifiers and Strikes. Oh, and give them a cool new detachment. Nerds love detachments'

I don't have my dex on me, are the fists no longer a force weapon? That sucks

indeed... But the hammer is only 5pts, and that has force and concussive. So is very much worth the upgrade. Or the sword, which only allows *1* re-roll to HIT and has force for 10pts. Both options attack at strength 10 ap2
