Flyers in 1000 point tourney Game

So,

 

i have have an event mid september in Cardiff.

 

3 Games at differing points levels.

 

1000 - 0-1 flyers

1500 - 0 - 2 flyers

2000 - 0 - 2 flyers

 

Unknown at the moment whether or not they are using 7th ediiton malestrom missions.

 

So obviously i want to use my freshly painted flyers but is it too much for a 1000pt game and will i be that guy if i did?

 

Im sure theres going to be some storm talons knocking about, and maybe even nid flyers!

 

I wont post my lists as ill do that in the appropriate forums but what do people think about the stormwolf at 1000?

Obviously just my opinion brother but I would have no problems if my opponent had a flyer in his 1000 point list, and with the stormwolf you are looking at 215 points plus so it is a relatively large portion of your points value in one unit which should mitigate the feeling from other people of you being 'that guy'. More than one flyer could be a bit of an issue for some people but I can't see there being much of a problem with you having a single one, good luck at the tourney and may you bring glory to Russ and the Allfather

At 1k points people usually do not have that many answers to flyers. At the same time, your flyer is primarily anti tank and at 1k points there is usually fewer targets for it.

Now, the Stormfang can be of much use due to the large blast.

The only faction that can spam flyers at that point are crons.

 

My reason tells me to skip on the flyer and instead rely on Long Fangs + Rune Priest to do the job.

 

However, my guts tell me to include that flyer because a Stormraven or Valkyrie are hard to take down at 1k points and when kitted out to be anti infantry, they are deadly.

There is a fair amount of point in reserve though so consider WUD to have the flyer come on turn 2 guaranteed and for the love of Russ, do not use it to transport. You will have too many points in reserve.

I think that the stormfang would be hated, with its large ap2 blast id be hated! (also, i have it modelled as the stormwolf so...)

 

i think ill take it, allows me the chance to use a flyer after not being able too!

Couple of things;

 

One flier easily fits into 1000pts. Be happy you get to play with your new toy. At AV 12, with jink you should be super hard to take down from the skies. If you run a storm fang, toss WG with combiplas in there incase you need to drop down and take out an HVT.

 

The large blast is AP3 however. If you're not worried about armour, don't run the multi meltas, and put Ulrik in there for his bonuses. It will be a very hard to kill warlard, with a lot of firepower

I'd run one, I think most opponents will run a flyer or an answer for one at a 1000. The armies that don't will have another strength like deathwing. Plus if you don't a heldrake may ruin your day ;).

Even at 1k points you need to be prepared for AV 14 or flyers.

If you do not then your leaving yourself open.

 

I do not consider it cheese. or unfair.

You are spending a lot of points for that AV14 or flyer, as such you are also taking a risk.

I have to say, I think the Stormwolf is so brilliantly competitive and versatile, and Bloodclaws have become so awe-inspringly brilliant, I would not think twice about paying 500 points for a Stormwolf filled with 15 bloodclaws. I would give them a Wolf priest, which would give them outflank on a 4+ before deployment. Keep them as my only reserves and they are guaranteed in turn 2.

 

The other 500 points goes on a Rune Priest and 2 squads of Grey Hunters.

 

This is purely a list I would enjoy playing, and in my mind would be reasonably useful. However I do not play tournaments or really competitive matches so perhaps I dont see the weaknesses.

 

One thing I can vouch for is the fear a squad of 15 Bloodclaws on the charge puts into any enemy. With a Pfist and Pack leader with Thunder Hammer, this can annihilate infantry, and has a decent chance against larger enemies too.

Dunno why some fear a flyer at 1000 points, its not that there is no answer to it. And besides that its a tourney, you play that to win (if you pay for it) so anything goes.

 

if some dont have an answer for that its there own mistake for not keeping that possibility in mind.
