Is the grand master upgrade really worth it?

Was making a list just then. And I can have a brother captain with cuirass of sacrifice and a hammer and psycannon for less than 200pts, but close too 200pts. (not putting actual posts up)

But the grandmaster with only 1 extra attack and warp charge is more in the price vicinity of a fully kitted out dreadknight.

What's your opinions guys?

Ps. Sorry for kinda spamming the forum with my questions

Well you only have one weapon to swap, so you can only get one item in exchange.

Regards to them being worth it, nah. (Seemingly) No-one ever bothered with the ML2 in the last book and he only had 3 attacks then anyway, so aside from the loss of Grand Strategy he's the same bloke with a different name now. If you reeeaaally want the extra attack, give Paladins the BroBanner and let them all benefit for less.

I like the hammer, means he can attempt to kill other 2+ armor guys.

Is he worth it, do you have another HQ? If so I would say no, if not I value the extra power from the up more then the extra attack.

Not sure I would care about the psycannon as if you upping him on the attack and to a hammer, I rather spend 20 pt else where.

Also how do you want him to play: cc, range support or psykic support. If you are going with range take the psycannon and the book as you can normally put people in front of him to take the hits for him and keep him as a brother captain. If any thing else, then you have more question to answer: what discipline, do I care about the primus power, who am I fighting, how will I get there, and the list goes on.

I'd kinda want him as an all rounder. Hence the hammer and psycannon. And probably rolling on divination for re-rolls, which would be super handy for his gun and in a challenge (and for his squad!)

But I'm actually contemplating whether or not 2 librarians (either both level 3 or one level 2 and 3) would be better :-P

Just for the shear psychic buffing they can do. The squad casts hammerhand, then the librarian casts force. That leaves the librarian with an extra 2 powers each left! Depending on what table you rolled on, that's a shed load of unit buffing/psychic offence going on

not if you buy two falchions.

Derp, forgot to put in "if you give him a Daemonhammer" before the attacks bit. Falchions are way cooler though.

I think you miss understand. If you buy the falchions then you can exchange one for the hammer while still retaining the other. As the hammer and remaining falchion are specialist weapons then the hammer gains an extra attack.

The Grandmaster upgrade is even more worth it than last edition. You guys do understand that they massively reduced the cost right? Before, we paid 175 for a Mastery 1, now we pay 185 for a Mastery 2. 35 points for an extra WC and psychic power is definitely worth it.

GL is trolling, falchions belong on our units. Our heroes need to able to deal with a variety of threats. If you don't fight 2+ saves very often, the Soul Glaive is hands down the best weapon on a Grandmaster. If you do fight 2+ saves regularly, take a hammer instead and take the Cuirass of Sacrifice.

GKGM upgrade

35 points for PML+1, A+1.

Nemesis Falchions

4 points for A+1.

Not trolling.  If you're not worried about the PML upgrade, you can save 31 points by taking Falchions and calling your BC a GM.

Sure, for other reasons this might not be wanted, as you might want the Hammer of Stave.

But if all you were doing is taking the GM upgrade (for the increase to A), and leaving your dude with a Sword, then consider not taking the GM upgrade, but taking Falchions instead.

And save yourself 31 points.

Hmmm..  RAW strikes again.

IIRC the Falchion option is *two* Falchions.

By RAW you could then replace *one* Falchion with a Hammer.

Not the intention at all.  And prepare to be Dreadsocked if you try to pull it.

But I don't see a RAW arguement against it.
