Brother-Chaplain Kage
Well.. my motives aren't completely altruistic. I've considered doing a SoH figure or two and this just gave me a reason to try out a few things that might have been simple solutions(ha ha) for the paint job, but if it happens to help others along the way, that's fine by me. After this comes the complex mixture or dozens-of-steps method of coming up with a paint scheme. ephrael
You could try the SoH recipe listed in this thread: http://z13.invisionfree.com/The_First_Expedition/index.php?showtopic=567 over on The First Expedition Forum. Will Wright has a pretty good recipe and he shares his personal recipe for mixing larger quantities so he has enough of each stage of paint for his entire army. He also has a thread on the same forum with all of his different projects in it. Brofist
Well, I went to my LGS and picked up a fresh bottle of Coal Black, and while it is a little bit lighter than my original bottle, it's still quite a bit darker than the color chart shows. I did a zenithal prime on two AoBR marines and painted the left one with my airbrush and the right one with a paintbrush. http://i.imgur.com/n7PEYwF.png Yeah, that's why I mix in some green into the coal black. Its an awesome color by itself, but you need to bring it closer to the green spectrum to work for SOH, and it probably will never be as bright as the FW version (not a problem IMO, I like my minis weathered and dirty looking) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295900-sons-of-horus-paint-help/page/3/#findComment-3794967 Share on other sites

Haha fair enough, still, thanks for taking the time to show the results. Been really helpful :) will be awesome to see your take on the SoH. Brother Vidius
I used a really simple scheme I found online: Black undercoat, Dawnstone, highlight with Administratum grey and then a heavy Coelia greenshade wash. It comes out a really nice dark green which I prefer. Fire Golem
I haven't really short listed yet haha, I know I'm gonna try daemonprincedargor's recipe though, pretty close to what I want, and the modified FW one from the 1st crusade link. I wouldn't get too excited to see what I settle on, these'll be the first models I've painted and will probably turn out crap. Brother Vidius, have you got any examples of that?
