(In the name of the Emperor/ We are His children) http://i.imgur.com/3E1ZeUT.jpg Centurion Marius Aquillius of the 3rd Century [/clearfloat] Origins of the Patricians Little is known about the actual founding the Patricians hail from. Their earliest recorded actions occur shortly prior to the 22nd Founding, thus Imperial scholars speculate they hail from the 21st Founding. It has been noted that the chapter does not share the foul luck of it's brother chapters from the same founding, but it has been observed that the Patricians are extreme perfectionist. Homeworld Palatia is a fuedal world with a subtropical climate. The planet has a single massive supercontinent that is covered in flat, fertile plains and a mountain range the spans the length of the northern coastline. Approximately six kilometres south of the mountain's north western edge lies the Paladin Foothills. On top of these hills is the wonderous city of Remulus. The city is the location of the Patrician's fortress-monastery, the Domus Aquilae. The fortress lies on the banks of the Trajax River, which is rumoured to have been where the chapter's first legate was buried. Organization The Patricians follow an organisational theme reminiscent of that of the Codex Astartes, with obvious influence from a culture from ancient Terra's early history. The smallest organisational unit is the typical squad, with the main difference being the squad numbers no greater than eight men, including the sergeant - who is known as an Octavian. Ten of these squads make up the bulk of each century, the chapter's equivalent to companies. The remaining portion of the century is composed of the following: The centurion, a priest, a warsmith, a century champion, a medicus, a signifer, an aenator, and twelve evocati. All centuries share the same format, with the exception of the tenth century. The tenth is comprised of the Equites, the chapters newest aspirants. In total there are ten centuries in the chapter, each being responsible for maintenance of wargear and seigecraft in their respective armouries. At the helm of the chapter is the Legate, the equivalent of a standard chapter master. He is assisted by a council that includes: Himself, the high priest, the forge master, the ten centurions, and his praetorian guard. Specialist Position of the Patricians Centurion - CaptainPriest - Chaplain Warsmith - Techmarine Medicus - Apothecary Signifer - Standard Bearer Aenator - Bard-brother Evocati - Veterans Octavian - Sergeant Equites - Neophytes Praetorian Guard - Honour Guard [clearfloat] Combat Doctrine The chapter drills relentlessly for close-to-midrange warfare. They seek perfection in execution and discipline. It has been said that their prowess with the holy bolter, as a result of their dedication, rivals that of the Imperial Fists, possibly a clue as to the lineage of the chapter's geneseed. The centurions lead from the fore, often making an armoured assault towards enemy lines with fire support from artillery like Thunderfire Cannons to cover his advance. Other methods of deployment include drop pod assault and fast attack offensives, which include a main force of land speeders accompanied by Equites and air support. When an offensive proves to not be a viable option, the chapter prepares for attrition warfare.Artillery will be deployed en masse and vehicles will be maneuvered to create fire lanes for artillery and provide cover for the deployed forces. Geneseed The geneseed of the Patricians is of a classified gene-stock, only the highest officials of the Imperium have access to the information. The geneseed has been heavily altered by the Adeptus Mechanicus in an effort to create a superior breed of Astartes, the experiment had proved largely to be a great success. The warriors of the Patricians displayed abilities greater than that of the standard Astartes brethren. Each organ performs up to 300% better with effects like greatly bolstered muscle and bone growth, greatly decreased recovery time, more efficient blood and oxygen flow and many other benefits. However, the superiority comes with a price. The warriors of the Patricians chapter rely on drugs to maintain such high levels of performance. The Astartes of the chapter can function for approximately three days without stims or combat drugs, after that their ability to function as super soldiers begins to diminish. After approximately seven days without the necessary drugs organs will begin to fail in an Astartes, and after about ten days the chance of death from organ failure grows greater with each passing day. Beliefs The Patricians venerate the Emperor as the father of mankind and will selflessly come to the aid of all his children, Astartes and non-Astartes alike. However, the chapter strives for perfection amongst it's own ranks. This means potential recruits possessing the psyker mutation are not permitted entrance into the chapter. The mutation is viewed as a blemish on the perfect template that is mankind by the chapter; they believe that if the Emperor desired mankind to tap into some sort of psychic potential, then he would have granted all of mankind such a gift. The chapter maintains a close bond with the citizenry of their homeworld, often partaking in the cultural aspects of their world. Art in all forms is practised within the chapter: poetry and song being the most dominant of the art forms amongst the chapter. A treasured work of the chapter is the epic poem "The Dawn of War". The work details the life and adventures of the first legate of the Patricians, Martius Rex, and his role in the Great Xenos Incursion. It details how he masterfully recruited other chapters to his aid and his prowess on the battlefield that he gained through relentless drilling and unyielding discipline. The epic ultimately culminates in his victory over the combined forces of the Eldar and the Tau, and a latecomer force of Orks who caught wind of the massive battle raging in the Albius system. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Concer, comments , and criticism are all welcome. Aqui
Geneseed Much information pertaining to the geneseed of the Patricians is highly classified and requires security clearance that many inquisitors do not have. This has caused some distrust of the chapter amongst a few inquisitors. What is known of the geneseed however, is it has a high percentage of purity, at 88 percent. The Mechanicum has been barred from further research and observation of the geneseed by decree of the Administratum. I know that this IA is in its early stages, but will there be an explanation as to why the Chapter's geneseed is classified and that the Mechanicum is not allowed to research it? I only ask, as part of the Mechanicum's duties include purity evaluation, and that would involve a measure of research. Otherwise, the unorthodox (for 40K at least ) organisation terms etc make sense Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295948-ia-the-patricians/#findComment-3794628 Share on other sites
Tiberius Cato
I was thinking of something along the lines of the Minotaurs, but possibly with some kind of subterfuge going on in the ranks of the Administratum of either inquisitorial or other *cough*AlphaLegion*cough* origin. I may even remove the line about purity, as any kind of research would be disallowed and the geneseed is kept only for purposes of maintaining a genestock for the chapter. This would likely culminate in the inquisition being extremely distrustful of the chapter. I also see the chapter as being extremely xenophobic, being prime candidates for the Deathwatch. They would also perhaps pursue small Eldar craftworlds and Ork Waaaghs! and eradicate them before they even have a chance to become a threat to Imperial worlds and forces. Their hatred for mutants would also lead to them refusing to aid Astra Militarum forces that are not solely made of up regular human soldiers. The beliefs section will see additions soon aswell, to detail the chapters attention to detail and strict adherence to their doctrine. I will also add a "Notable Engagements" section and add more details to many of the current existing sections as I finalise information. Tithing geneseed is fundamentally part of the the existence of a Chapter. If they're not doing it, there needs to be a reason why. Why is the Admin protecting them? Surely if they were a geneseed experiment the AdMech would already know. They are the keepers of the geneseed. Tiberius Cato
Okay, so here's what i'm thinking: An inquisitor of notable rank had managed to persuade a few of his colleagues of the value of an experiment he had in mind. He wanted to create a new breed of Astartes, one that strived for perfection in the art of war and was not restrained by flaws in their geneseed; they would be warriors with abilities superior to regular Astartes. They would see increased performance from implants like the Larraman's Organ, resulting in warriors who could take even more damage and recovering from it. Massive fist size hole in the chest? No problem, it would close up and repair whatever damage was done within a matter of days. Gunshot wounds would heal even quicker, sometimes within seconds of happening. He planned for this new strain of Astartes to bolster the already powerful Astartes. This inquisitor and his newfound allies take their plan to the High Lords and manage to convince them to give the all clear for the project in the next founding. The Mechanicum uses the geneseed of +Redacted+ and performs experiments to improve upon it. Whatever flaws it may have had are removed, and key organs are bolstered as planned. The enhanced geneseed even produces fast growing zygotes that greatly reduce the time it takes to produce progenoids at a quicker rate, allowing loses to be replaced quicker. But it all comes at a price; the rejection rate of the geneseed is incredibly high. Only 5 percent (maybe less) of all recruits' bodies accept the implants. There is also a rare occurance where a brother's progenoids wither and die in the marine, making it impossible for him to have any kind of genetic legacy within the chapter, other organs may start to fail as the Astartes ages aswell, culminating in an administration of the Emperor's Peace or premature interment in a dreadnought, as the battle-brother is no longer able to perform his duties as a regular Astartes. So in effect, the increased speed of becoming astartes is canceled out due to the rejection rate and possibility of complete failure of implantations down the road. Edit: Didn't get at what I intended to answer Anyways, obviously Emperor's Children geneseed was used. The legion had displayed an extreme desire for perfection in all aspects of war, thus was a prime candidate for geneseed experimentation to create a more perfect Astartes. The Deus Ex Machina that is the inquisitor stressed that it was of utmost importance that any evidence of this be kept classified, and any information pertaining to the project requiring top security clearance. The Mechanicum agrees to stay hush hush as long as they have a good proportion of resources diverted their way in order to assist their search for lost technology. They are given many vessels and a few regiments of the Astra Militarum to assist them. And as a continued "I'll keep my mouth shut" tax, the Administratum diverts resources to the Mechanicum's many expedition fleets, providing them with weapons and ammunition among other things. Whatever seems out of place, feel free to correct me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/295948-ia-the-patricians/#findComment-3794848 Share on other sites

Tiberius Cato
I like it so far but I'm almost tempted to write up a Chaos Warband called "The Plebeians" Go for it! Patricians can't exist without plebians, otherwise they'd just be citizens!
