What Mark for Templar Brethren?

Recommended Posts

Placing a order with Forge World to build some Templar Brethren. From the battle on Mars and the Fists allocation of supplies that MK IV Despoiler Squads would be a good unit to build upon (Templar Brethren are suppose to have the best available gear). What do you think? What are you using?

I'm using mark 3 with gladii and boarding assault shields to represent my captains veteran Breacher unit. I'll wait until the model releases for my 1st Company expansion. You also might consider the fine cast sword brethren models as a stop gap.

Got one of the limited edition MK III captains with thunderhammer and boarding shield on a trade he has become my first HQ. I have given thought to given my old metal sword brethren a redo, they did loose their 40k spot. Thanks Marshal2.

Still fighting the itch to place an order though.

If your doing Templars that are present after the Battle of mars (and thus have access to MK VII) how about using a Vanguard Veteran Box and just slapping on regular backpacks? The only problem would be shoulders with the Crux Terminatus but thats easily fixed with BT bits and other FW goodies. Also could use the IF upgrade Chest for them.

Personally, I'd give them MK IV armor. with maybe a MK III or GK helm. That is, until we get an actual Templar Brethren release from FW...

Edit: then again, VV's don't have too much obviously MK VII gear, just stuff with LOTS of bling..which might go against Imperial Fist habits in general.

Aye, I'm going for a nice mix eventually with mine, but in my Forge World order arriving today, I'm doing Sigismund and 5 Templars, all in mk III armour. I think, as Russ Brother states, that as the 1st company they would have access to whichever weapons and armour they wanted. Myself, I'm planning an all mk III army as it's my absolute favourite armour.

I'm making each Templar unique. My champion is pretty plain looking in mk3 , just a Templar shoulder pad and a solarite power gauntlet, his left should pad has the sun on it and his chest plate has lightning bolts inferring he is a veteran of the 7th legion from the unification wars and the reclamation of the solar system he has a few buddies in the squad who look similar. My MK4 guys fit more with the classic black Templar look, Tabards and chains etc. I see it as each has earned his right to be unique so make them stand out!

Here's 5 of the Templar Brethren so far. I'll wait on doing the other 5, need some more If upgrades and mk III power weapons sets. A squad of Legion Terminators is next up and the last third of the 20-man Tactical Squad. Need to think how I'm gonna do Siggy too

Haha yeah it's a real hard one to pin down. I'm gonna make the most of my newfound obsession with Lahmian Medium and hope that helps the yellow paints flow better.

And seriously, the IF kits are gorgeous. The torsos especially so. Makes me feel very confident as to what the characters and units will look like.

I agree

Y'know, those IF helms made my eye twitch when I first saw them, but seeing it on a put-together model helps alot. I think I'm warming to them.

I was thinking the exact same thing as soon as I saw the first pic of them in use.

Well I'm a big fan of the Crusade era, and have been gluing these whilst watching the EE Kingdom of Heaven. The helmets are actually pretty special. Along with the torsos, the IF have been very lucky

They look great, and yeah, the EE of KoH is great inspiration. It's amazing what a completely different movie it is compared to the theatrical cut.

Probably speaks volumes for my choice of Legion when I watch Apocalypse Now, Platoon, We Were Soldiers, Hamburger Hill, Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter while working on my models.... whistlingW.gif

Well, you could watch Kingdom of Heaven for a sort of medieval representation of the VII Legion with Balian leading the defense of Jerusalem, and the IV Legion besieging it, commanded by Salah ad-Din.

They did invent the moritat

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer to use combat photographs to pull inspiration for models. It helps with posing the models naturally, and it helps with painting and weathering realistically. Not many cameras around during the Roman Empire so I'm a little lost when trying to pose breachers.

I guess to for the Phalanx formation?

But Y'know, with guns... Though I think, they'd only look good together at that point and you'd be stuck keeping them in formation lest a few of them look silly holding their shields above their heads....
