hardimanm
So im looking over the army lists and the codex and trying to wrap my head around it all. I have a couple of random thoughts that i wanted to input from my fellow wolves on. 1. I noticed that no one is taking powerfist and are in favor of the power axe. Why is this? Is double str not better than just +1 str? And they are both unwieldy right?(still learning the 7th ed changes) 2. I also saw that wolf guard can take jump packs for 3 points. But no one seems to be including them. I know that for 7 points you can get the bikes which is better. But i dont want to use bike as i have an entire mounted White Scar army. So with that said...would wolf guard with jump packs not just rock? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296023-need-input-and-thoughts/ Share on other sites
Leif Bearclaw
Powerfists, as a specialist weapon, are a waste of points on 1 attack regular troops, because they pay the same as everyone else despite being objectively worse. So taking an axe on your BC/GH at least allows you to relaibly get a hit in thanks to the +1 attack thanks to 2 ccws. Whereas on WG the problem becomes the ease of neutralising an PA/PF WG with challenges. It's generally viewed that unwieldy on a 1W 3+ save model is suicide (or at least mutual death) in a challenge, and if you refuse the challenge, the WG can't swing anyway. Ultimately, Jump Packs aren't favoured because we already have better option for the 'fast assault' niece, both the bikers (which you acknowledge as better in the OP) and TWC are more survivable and hit as hard/harder than Jump Pack WG. It's unfortunate for you that you alrwady have a biker army, but most of us don't, hence why WG bikers are so much more appealing than Jump Packs. Squark
Mostly, it's cheaper. Not being a specialist weapon also helps on Grey Hunters since they don't have many attacks. On blood claws or Thunderwolf Cavalry, yeah, the Powerfist is the way to go, but sometimes you just want cheap AP 2. The main issue with Wolf Guard with Jump Packs is that Skyclaws are 6 points cheaper, and all you get from the upgrade to wolf guard is +1 WS, BS, and more access to the armory (Whereas Wolf Guard bikers have more attacks than Swift Claws, since Swift Claws only have one weapon). Also, if you really want jump packs, go Blood Angels. Commander_Moustache
Yeah not too much to add by my compatriots here. Power axes are better on grey hunters and bloodclaws (but you may get away with a power fist on a wolf guard) and bikers are much better for wolfguard squads, but if you want an elite jump pack model, teat them as you would vanguard veterans and you wont go far wrong Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296023-need-input-and-thoughts/#findComment-3794788 Share on other sites
Squark
Blood Claws can pull off power fists, actually. With rage, you've got the same number of attacks on a charge as a wolf guard would. 3 S8 attacks vs. 4 S5 attacks is leaning in favor of the power fist, in my opinion. Nadir
Yes, but only in the first turn. Sfter that, it's only one attack. Of course IF you will be able to charge. viddar
Yes, but only in the first turn. Sfter that, it's only one attack. Of course IF you will be able to charge. In all fairness it should also be a question if there is a second turn of combat. Claws have a habit of ending things quickly one way or another. Spacefrisian
I use it on 1 of my Greyhunter unit, but there is also a banner in that one, so he does have a bonus attack.
