librisrouge
Iirc, platoons didn't change on bit except we loss the special characters and conscripts got cheaper. shandwen
Conscripts got a point drop, chimeras got an increase, and veterans got a point drop (offset by the chimeras jump). All together conscripts are noticable cheaper, but thats really the only change in the big scheme of things. Elysium126
back in storage with them i guess, thank you for saving me $60 :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3794915 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
It's not a big deal though, I think Platoons might be too good if they got cheaper! Guardsmen are cheap as long as you don't go crazy on upgrades without a good reason. Nicodemus Doloroso
Vox casters went down significantly in cost making them almost auto include now in my opinion. That's definitely something. Cap'm Heckus
Orders got better. Leman Russ tank variants (for the most part) got cheaper. Priests got cheaper even though they improved significantly. The new mortar tank is so good it feels almost dirty to use. Armored sentinels got cheaper. Stormtroopers got a little cheaper and gained some options (buy multiple squads in one slot). Astropaths are now psykers (their old ability rolled over into the Master o' the fleet). Cheap conscript blobs with cheap priests or primaris-divination-psykers are down right frightening. Tank commanders can be your HQ (better than it sounds). Cheaper Veteran squads is nice. Warlord traits get 5 out of 6 stars IMO. Medics are cheaper. Some interesting Ogryn options were added. Down sides: Flyers got more expensive. Vendetta is down in carrying capacity (from 12 to 6). PBS (now Wyrdvane) got nerfalized (hard, but probably justifiably). Some tanks that didnt have GW models vanished entirely (Medusa, Collosus). Some characters (Marbo, Al'Rahem, Chenkov, and that cadian veteran guy) disappeared. Penal squads disappeared. Neither here nor there: We got new troop transports that seem to be either loved or hated. Ratlings got a skill (Ive yet to see it in play, so I can't say). Horsemen are still in but unchanged (i really wanted to see them do something fun with these guys). The new Hydras are pretty to look at ... Over all, I felt good about the codex. Elysium126
mortar tank.... the griffon? what is "so good it feels almost dirty to use" about it now? i as because it was the only non transport tank i liked....... well that and the Baneblade but doesn't everyone love that monster Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3795188 Share on other sites
Barbarov
No, the new mortar tank is the Wyvern with two twin-linked stormshard mortars = heavy 2, barrage, blast, ignores cover and shred. march10k
So you wanted guardsmen to be cheaper than meltabombs? I'm not saying they're undercosted, but if you think the opposite.... Elysium126
Wyvern sounds cool looks a little funky wasn't really after cheaper infantry mostly cheaper options because SM and Guard cost the same for plasma guns and other weapons where they(SM) can use theirs better and will most likely survive being looked at to use more then once. i can deal with infantry platoons being almost exactly the same as before as it was a good platoon set up. ok last question: can i have squad Sgt's use lasguns or are they still stuck with pistol/ccw? WarriorFish
What makes the Wyvern so good isn't so much the rules which are pretty nice - it's the price tag. It's dirt cheap, put a couple in a squadron and watch anything short of Marines evaporate quickly. Even Marines will be hurting through the number of saves forced, it's a great addition and with a little bit of work can swap into a Hydra :) Sergeants can't take a lasgun still but we do have the nifty option of a boltgun for now :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3795761 Share on other sites
Sviar
wasn't really after cheaper infantry mostly cheaper options because SM and Guard cost the same for plasma guns and other weapons where they(SM) can use theirs better Ten SM with one Plasmagun cost more than ten Veterans with three Plasmaguns + a Sergeant with a Bolter. Both have BS4. You could give the Veternas better armour and they would still be cheaper. Stop resisting the Guard, no one can Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3795941 Share on other sites
Elysium126
Stop resisting the Guard, no one can played Guard ever since i started back in 94 only stopped when i found out about the Heresy that is the name change but point wise was talking about weapon costs not base vets are cool but as a grunt commander i still love dropping about 200 guys in a 2k pts game Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3796191 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Sounds like you're coming home then ;) Give the orders a good read, that should give the grunt commander in you some nice ideas. Elysium126
well i found a rules "overview" thingy on 1d4chan for the new guard dex (the tactics look unimaginative) and the only thing i need to know know is How hard is it to edit AM out and put Impguard in place with the e-dex? lol i can bring my chaplains back if the "overview" is right about the priests that is, the last dex they kind of sucked but it looks like ill be gettting it soon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3796917 Share on other sites
Commander_Moustache
Eh they are still referd to Guardsmen in the book. Its basicaly done to unit Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy under one name. And be easier to copyright Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3796930 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Yeah there's no need, after the initial blurb page it's all "Imperial Guard" :D Welcome back to the Guard, comrade ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3797012 Share on other sites
CoffeeGrunt
On release day at my local store, we laughed at the fact that the new name literally is only mentioned on the front cover before they go back to Imperial Guard. It's an understandable copyright measure. I started my Guard with the new Codex, and I'm really enjoying them so far! Elysium126
here is how i would have done the new thing and not made any fuss for the players (Heresy): Imperial Guard sorry i cant help but self edit that name..... i really dont like it; but then again i havent seen it past page 6 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3797886 Share on other sites
Elysium126
am i correct in believing that the point cost for... example straken is added to the cost of the CCS? or is the CCS cost included in the cost of the special character? WarriorFish
Straken is an upgrade character, so think of him as a purchase for the Company Commander but rather than adding a weapon he replaces the entire commander :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296036-after-an-answer-not-number/#findComment-3798589 Share on other sites
